ALL of my welsummer cross Olive Eggers look just like welsummers with beards. Yellow legs and all. I used wheaten ameraucanas and wild type partridge EEs. The hens are not incredibly large- probably smaller than either welsummers or ameraucanas at 6 months. They're cute though- I would say they are "spritely" if that is a word.
Well this is the first part of the Olive Egger process.... I have just now gotten the Welsummer/Blue Ameraucana eggs hatching.... then when and If I get any hens from those eggs... then I will need to decide what to breed with... Is the Black Copper Maran the best to breed with.... I am still learning this process.... or does it matter.... oh I have gotten myself so confused, lol
The welsummer crosses probably won't lay the super dark olive eggs. Mine are more of an army green. I am crossing them back to the wellie roo to make them darker next generation, but if you have marans too you could try some with each to get different shades of olive. How fun!!!!
