The Olive-Egger thread!

Glad you posted that I was admonished last week for suggesting that one hen laid different colored eggs but here's a pic of two eggs from one hen within two days time. I have her separated with a bcm roo so I know for sure they can only be her eggs.

I am just totally amazed that this can happen. Olive eggers are the true easter eggers. I love it. Cant wait for my ameraucana rooster to get my marans girls eggs fertilized. They must need to get to know each other better first cuz her eggs are not yet fertile. Of course it has only been about 4 days. lol.

About the white egg layers... I am getting blue andalusians!! So exotic looking and normal ol' white eggs. Woohoo!

I can't wait to try the OEs especially since I now know they can lay differently everyday, or not. I am one that thought that each chicken lays it's own color egg regularly except for the silly Marans cycle thing they have going on. I do notice a lighter blue egg in the AMs pen occassionally too. I have some OEs in the incubator now. So we will see............
Katie, I think I have my first nice looking Splash AM out this morning. I will know for sure later when I open the incubator. There are several little fuzzy butts hanging out in there. Some Light Sussex, Yokohamas, B/W AMs & I think so far one nice Splash, but it's not really silvery so it may be a blue. No BCMs yet though. I sure have a hard time getting them out even when everyone else is eager to come out to play.....LOL

Love the variation of the egg colors. Got a olive egger She is either Cuckoo marans roo x blue wheaten type EE. hen . Or the opposite way. I hatched my friends eggs she was a chick I got. She lays a beautiful olive egg and she is Barred.
The neighbors got ate or gave away my EE barred roo .
She was in with my Black copper marans rooster until 2 weeks ago I put her in with my silver/golden cuckoo rooster I bought (from dark egg)
Question will she produce chicks from both roosters????? If the answer is yes for how long .

So I got my first egg from one of my Olive-eggers that I bred myself. She has an Araucana father and a Black Copper Marans mom. She has a pea comb. The egg is a light tan.

I am so disappointed. It is not even dark brown. Not sure what this means. I have one more pullet the same age that has not laid an egg yet. Does this mean I will not get olive eggs from my roo? I have him in a breeding pen with my Marans at the moment. I plan on hatching lots of eggs from them once the girls start laying. So frustrating. Should I give up on this roo?

on the spellcheck

Using a purebred Ameraucana with good egg color in his bloodlines gives you a very very low chance for a brown layer, but it still can happen now and then. Honestly though I've only had it happen once with my Araucana boys in about 4 different hatch batches, and it was from a questionable Araucana male. (questionable as in, his comb was pretty floppy and I've seen khaki to olive laying Araucanas before, so I never trust floppy ugly combs)

So I wouldn't worry about it. Even with Easter Eggers, as long as the rooster has a comb that isn't tall, extremely spikey, folded, or floppy, you're pretty safe. Just avoid single combed offspring.

Thank you Illia. I believe you answered my question about my brown egg layer. My Araucana roo has a floppy comb. I am so disappointed because I really enjoy this roo.

I think I am going to forget about this breeding pen and wait for another roo to use. I guess I will not be having any pretty olive eggs this year.

Yep, for both aesthetic reasons and also genetic reasons I never ever use an Araucana with a tall, largely floppy, or spikey comb nor one with too big of wattles.

Yes, a hen can carry the semen from several roosters at once, since she stores it over weeks. The more dominantly active/fertile will get the more offspring, but it truly is a gamble. If a hen is with multiple roosters you can get anything out of her, but of course, you can't have two fathers to one chick.

For all of those who know me and my "famous" olive eggers and have ordered and received olive eggs from me over the past four years - I'm in need of a personal favor. Someone named Classy Poultry (on FaceBook) ordered two dozen of my olive eggs. As soon as she received them she sent me a picture of eggs that were definitely not olive. Whether the picture was doctored or whether somehow the beautiful olive eggs I had wrapped and shipped somehow changed colors - I do not know. I do know I gave her a full refund due to her complaint but she proceeded to post the picture of the bad eggs on FaceBook, on several chicken forums and FB pages as well as on her own FB page and farm page. She complained she had to wait a long time for the "junk" she received and she paid over $100 for them. I had told her when she ordered them there was a two week wait and I shipped them two weeks later. I had asked her to return them for a full refund because I could still hatch them and I wanted to see the color in person, but she refused to return them, kept them, and I sent the refund anyway. Of course once she posted the picture all over FB she got hundreds of comments by people who do not know me. They accused me of theft, bait and switch, photoshopping pictures and stealing pictures and money. She did a lot of damage to my name and reputation. So now I'm asking if anyone who has ordered and received olive eggs from me, over the past four years, would be so kind as to post a nice comment on my FB farm page I would truly appreciate it. I really need it. Thank you all so much.

Here's one of my "famous" pictures that they all claimed I stole or photoshopped. If you could have read the names they called me, you'd know why I'm so upset.

Here's the link to my FB farm page - which some of the people also posted negative comments on. Of course, I've deleted them but Classy Poultry still has some of them on her page left for all to see.

some people have nothing better to do than be a Pain

Wow, it is amazing how pathetic some people are in this world. I have never received eggs from you but I'm sure you are a wonderful person because you have not stooped to the level of this individual. What would you benefit by photoshopping your pictures? And for them to not ship the eggs back to prove your innocence? Sad sad sad.

Thank you I thought that was the answer but wasn't sure
It has been 2 weeks now that she has only been with the silver cuckoo roo. Soon it should be just his chicks.

Of course it takes a whole year almost to see if chicks from the cross Have darker eggs then the hen. This is so much fun.
