The Olive-Egger thread!

Can't wait to see.

I hope people aren't again confusing green laying EE's with OE's

Not pointing fingers though, just, reminding.

Love the egg colors I've been seeing though especially the olive vs blue, wow, is that BLUE for an Olive Egger! And yes, you'll get the color back.

Well I just gotta say with excited news, I received 10 OE x OE eggs to hatch a while ago, they're cooking now with 100% fertility, and the most exciting part of all is the recent news - These eggs are based from Araucana based OE's, yet, both Araucanas were clean-faced, thus, I sold them to someone else which is why I only have 10 I traded for, but anyway, just recently they hatched some of their own, and what do they get? A bilaterally tufted, and I mean perfect large symmetrical tufts, Olive Egger! I'm sooo excited for them but also sooo jealous. That means the pullet I sold to them (can't be the cockerel) is internally tufted (yep, it happens but is rare) and the eggs I'm cooking could also very likely hatch out tufted.

I hope, oh I hope, to get more than one bilaterally tufted Olive Egger, that would be SWEET. Especially if she laid awesome eggs for me, or was a rumpless male with excellent size. They're based from the two biggest Araucanas I had/have, and the two biggest but darkest laying Marans I had. One of them laid purple eggs too, and already the parent OE lays lots of chalky bloom on her eggs, so I hope for some awesome egg colors in the F2 offspring. I'm going to keep all the girls I get to see what egg colors I receive.

Very excited, I am.

Another great thing, these eggs are enormous. . .

Makes we wish it was October already! Oh,

the waiting!

Lucky you Illia, I love tufts! Does it tickle to be internally tufted, I wonder?
ooooooh!! Thanks for that link! I ordered the instruction book 1 and the kit with all the dye colors and an egg blower. They have all kinds of wax and funnel things but I am not sure what all I would need. So after I get the book I think I might re-order that fancy stuff I need to make cool eggs!
FUN!!

Mu ha ha ha! Once you start doing pysanky you'll never stop! Get the wax and the kistka, then you're good to go! Now is the time to start, you want a whole basket full at easter.

I'm afraid my waiting will be til late fall, winter, or spring. Last time I did an Easter hatch I didn't get any eggs until they were 8-10 months old. They weren't OE's but my last F1 OE's weren't on-time or early layers either.

Oh, well, here's just for hoping for eggs by at most, 7 months. I'd be happy waiting 7 months, 6 months would be great. My purebred Araucanas are often early bloomers, my Marans are average, but for some reason my OE's and even EE's are late.

A friend of mine hatched one of my golden cuckoo marans (hen) x black ameraucana (roo) eggs. I know some of you have told me that this cross results in sex-link chicks. The chick is black with a white splotch on its head. Would that indicate a roo chick?
Thanks.

Yes, that would be a boy. (Sorry! Unless you were hoping for a roo?)

I have 12 Olive Eggers in lockdown... today is day 19... I can't see ANYTHING in these eggs even with 400 lumens. BUT.... I have a PIP! I have tried to hatch sooooooo many and none have ever hatched.

come on babies..... I had them with new roos so I hope that was the problem. I need more Olive Eggers. The pullets from this hatch should lay a pretty dark olive... can't wait....

Lots more Olive egg in the bator from fellow BYC so I should have some pretty soon
