I got my first olive egg today. Also some of the other eggs from today's haul.

Guys, I have a roo guy meeting tomorrow and I have to decide who to keep. I have 3 olive egger roos. I am going to keep 2. 1 was hiding in the pullet growout pen

anyway. I have a blue copper looking olive egger roo (keeping him for sure) a Solid black Olive Egger roo and a Black Copper looking Olive Egger roo. I think I really like the BC looking one. His copper is very dark red, like cherry furniture color. My olive egger pullet are blue and black so either would work. But then I think, the solid black would help keep the olive egger looking different than the marans.....

help a girl out, what should I do? then again I could keep both blacks.... I think I like them BETTER than the blue roo

I vote for the black copper. with a olive egger I like the idea of more color.
If I where breeding to standard then...

I do plan on trying a Wheaten Penedesenca and a wheaten Ameraucana... stay tuned

That sounds very interesting. Please keep use in the loop on that one. Do you have any pictures for use now? Soon? or are we gona have to wait til next spring?

With the wheaten color if you breed to a cuckoo pattern or barred you will get crele pattern from some of the chicks.
I used a blue cuckoo oe hen with a wheaten Marans rooster and the cockerel chicks carried the crele pattern.

The copper roosters do look better , but if from same breed dings the blk will carry it in his genes too.
Does the blk have. The beetle green sheen on his feathers? The ones that do are very striking when full grown.

Your welcome, so now you get your green eggs and ham.
If you need any oe roosters/ cockerels let me know I have a few I have to rehome.
The back ground is cuckoo Marans x lemon blue ee
Cuckoo oe (h) x wheaten Marans
Solid blue with lacing of blue blk ( small lacing on tips of feathers)
& cherry red hen oes x blue jersey giant roosters.
I also have a few spangled ordolf x blue copper Marans (h) 4/5 month old started chicks I know one for sure is a rooster.
Anyway if you want or know some one that does around your area - Hedgesville ,wv
We have started to move to nc but I still have birds to move. - pm or email me for more info.

Best wishes for everyone starting a new breeding project.

Keep the blue copper and the black copper. I really don't know anything about this, but if you go back and read your post, pretending it is not you, you will see that you have already made up your mind!

The olive eggers will probably all look different than the Marans anyway. Three of my olive eggers I call "the triplets" because they all looked identical, but over time, differences are emerging. One has feathered legs (black head, gray body), and of the two clean-legged, one has a black head/gray body, and the other has dark gray head/gray body.

Nature space, - nice eggs!

Decisions, decisions . . . . pick the two most unrelated to each other and the hens.
