The Olive-Egger thread!

It's so exciting! So many colors.... :). I bet my brother to see what colors my chickens who should lay colored eggs lay.. (wow that made no sence...!). :)
To those of us who have been so excited waiting to see the color of the eggs... it makes PERFECT sense!

Even Ameraucana's are mixes.. just mixes with breed standards. don't tell the thread I said that though lol.
Well I knew Ameraucanas are Araucana mixes, but i just did not know there where "spacial standards" for some and not for others. It all sounds a little silly to me, and I still like my birds whatever they are.

Quote: Most chicken breeds start out as mixes. SLW, Doms, BR, NH that is how new colors are created too, Mixes. All accepted breeds have standards. Not all breeds are accepted and not all Colors are accepted in each breed. To me it is ODD that Black Rocks are not admitted, but Blue Rocks are.... just odd. I don't know of any breed that does not have a Black color..... odd.... very odd.

hello
I just wanted to share pictures of my JG X F2 OE 6 month olds.

my breeders

The Splash Rooster is being bred back to jg hens(3 from my old line)
The laying pullets are bred to a blue egg gene rooster.
the Blue/red rooster I'll bred to blrws (2)
I'm getting olive eggs and a dark brn (off color marans egg color)
the pullet eggs are lg the smallest egg was a Med/Lg.
I crossed these to try to get the size of the eggs and body bigger on my oe's. I am happy with what I'm getting from them.

Has anyone done a oliver breed crossing chart?
I've seen the ones with egg colors for a few generations, but I'd love to see ones showing actual breeds/hens/roos crossed to make what color birds & eggs. I guess since there is so much random variability, each person would have to make their own. Once I get going with olivers, I will try to rmember to take pics of everyone & their eggs and do some kind of photo chart.
