The Olive-Egger thread!

Thanks, that is the first I have heard that the roosters need more light too. Well I guess I will be including some in the NY Hatchalong to see if they will develop.

Yes, I read a study on light for Roosters. Different colors of light have different results. One color makes them grow faster and etc.

I regret that I did not book mark the article now.

Okay, would it be a bad idea to use a roo that was hatched with the pullets to make F2s? You know like inbreeding stuff and all. I'm not sure what all he has in him...he looks wellie except he has white ear lobes and light shanks. Supposedly BCM, wellsummer and EE was what the lady had. Those ear lobes though where did they come from?
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Do you have pics of him?

I don't think I've ever taken the ipad to the chicken pen before...it was fun!

I opened up one of my OE pullet eggs this morn to check for fertility, it is fertile YAY. I was also excited to see the blue-green inner egg

I have my flock spreadsheet on mine & bring it out at band changing time. I also take pics of my daily eggs with a journal app since right now I know who lays what (mostly).

It's so cold out I took pity on my flock and bumped the heat lamp on. My new cockerel is getting his tail handed to him, so I figure the heat will do him good. I'm starting to collect eggs for the new years day hatch-a-long too. My incubator isn't quite ready, but hopefully up & running for tests this weekend. It will be a good test for my flock too. Winter laying AND fertility

We've gotten ourselves an olive egger!!!

Ed just began laying this weekend on the 29th....she has been laying ever since!!!

Ed is a mixed breed, we think of an easter egger and a brown egg layer......

I JUST HAVE ONE QUESTION...
are most olive eggers mixed breeds>

here is ed and her eggs!
