That's why I like the cross the opposite way, BCM over CCL. Sexlinked.I have six legbar x Marans crosses in the brooder right now. One is a crested pullet, but the rest look like cockerels. Urgh! I hope I'm wrong.
Just an FYI, I got some mixed eggs this summer. They were all Wheaten Marans crosses. All the chicks hatched out yellow, and then colored out like Wheatens. The males were black by 4 weeks and the females were red/brown in color. There are some variations due to mixing, but it seems like the Wheaten color was dominant.

Might be able to tell from barring if the cuckoo was the sire...otherwise the chicks would be sexlinked so some would have headspots and be barred (boys) and others would be solid.
