The Olive-Egger thread!

Just wanted to share egg pics! I love the varying shades of green. Some are gray green, some dark olive, some more of a bright green. Very fun experimenting!

Beautiful Olive oil!! I love the super dark eggs especially are the BCM? And where is La Grange, Ca? I am about an hour from Sacramento.

Thanks! I am 3 hours south east of Sacramento. Lake Don Pedro area if you know where that is. The olive eggs are from a birchen Marans Easter Egger cross. I don't hear of a lot of people who have the birchen variety, but I love them! I was soooo disappointed when I got my first egg from the cross because it was brown. But several others were green. Kind of a fun surprise.

What about the triple yolker?? That thing is huge. An EE egg? That's a very nice, colorful egg carton. I'm getting there if some of my marans would start laying again.

Beautiful! wowie. I can't wait, have everything in place to produce my own OE's this spring.
Conversation: Husband nonchalantly checks out TSC to see when chick days are starting.
Me: You do that and I'm going to get the incubator going.
Him: Yeah, but I'll get all girls my way.
Me, thinking: If we could only sex eggs. I figure I'm due for a lot of girls this year. Got mostly boys last year.

Funny how that goes. Probably when he buys pullets you'll hatch out a passel.

I used to raise Pygmy goats. One year I had 52 kids and only 6 does! Yeah, got a lot o' bucks and none in my wallet. I donated a lot of 4-H projects that year.

I've been getting nice shades of olive since adding OEs to my flock last year. The F1 pullets (BCM over Lavender Ameracaunas) are going to be bred back to a new BCM cockerel from Helen Byers line hopefully getting even darker shades next. In addition, I'll be covering some BCM with my Lavender Ameracauna Cockeral for some new F1 OEs. I'm going to breeding Lav Amer, BCM, OE, EE, Buckeyes and RIR this year. If anyone is interested in hatching eggs or chicks this spring or pullets/cockerels in the fall just PM me. My first batch will likely be ready in March. I'm in NE Ohio and currently am not shipping birds/eggs. Oh, and I'll also have some turkeys processed fresh two days before Thanksgiving. Here are a few results of the F1 cross. I kept the Cockerel "Beast Mode" simply because he is a stunning boy. With his single comb, he likely carries the brown egg gene and will not be used for breeding. My pullets are all a gorgeous shade of grey with beards/muffs.

Turned out to be a pullet OE.

My Lavender Ameracauna I'm using to cover some of my BCM pullets.

One of my OE F1 pullets.

Looks like I need to get some OE specific pics of eggs. This basket doesn't show how dark they are.

Beast Mode - I think he's gorgeous. Just eye candy for the property.

Thanks for looking. Comments/inquiries welcome.

Thats happened to us before only with sheep. It seems like the years you really need pullets, you get lots of roosters, and the years you want some roosters to raise for meat, you get overrun with pullets.

Gorgeaus birds!

Has anyone used wheaten Marans X Easter eggers?

I got 3 Black Copper Marans x Paint Crested Easter Egger eggs to hatch. Hopefully they will be pullets and with crests and will lay Olive eggs. Just hard waiting for them to lay if they are pullets.
