The Olive-Egger thread!

I am taking the plunge into Olive Egger breeding and getting an Araucana (British tailed one) cockerel. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a first cross or breeding plan suggestion? I was thinking araucana over a black copper marans? Although I've bred from my bantams in the past, egg colour is being a bit confuzzzling! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

BCMS are really hard to candle their eggs. But they makes the most olive toned eggs. Any brown layer would work. Best of luck!

I got my first OE today but I had no clue I even had an Olive Egger in my small flock!!!!! So now 3 of my 5 are laying

I finally figured out a way to post my pictures!

After a year and a half trying to get an olive egg, I finally have an olive egger! One of my project turkens is laying amazing olive eggs. She is the only one that has a pea comb (although it is a modified pea) and her two sisters lay dark brown eggs. Interestingly, her first couple of eggs were lighter and then they got darker over time. Her sisters did the same thing when they started to lay.

Left to right: First two eggs, eggs #3 & 4, her mom's eggs, eggs from her sisters that have a single comb.(first egg on bottom, later egg on top)

Some of my babies are here! 20 of 26 so far. About half should be OEs.

I love when the chicks are tiny like that!

This is our first full dozen from 1 EE thats seems to be an Olive Egger. Its the same dozen in both pictures but funny how the light changes them!I
Those look lovely all lined up together. We have an egg business. It is my goal to breed another 30 olive eggers so that I can have enough hens to put 1 olive egg in each dozen I sell.

Power was out 11 hrs, I got glove warmer, and put in basket, put in towels and eggs, then covered, temp stayed in upper 90's.
I had a power outage this last year when I had $200 in eggs in the bator. The eggs were cool to the touch when I discovered it. They all lived. I had 80% hatch! I think you will do just fine.
