The Olive-Egger thread!

Guess this is the best place as any to ask...anyone have olive eggs for sale? I tried all last summer to get some nice, true, olive colored eggs. I kept getting green eggs, but not the olive color. Anyone? I live in Utah. The weather is going to finally get nice this week. I so want to have an olive egger or two out there this summer! Thanks!

Mine are actually laying pretty well right now... the resulting chicks will be 2nd generation. (1st generation was Black Ameraucana x Black Marans/Cuckoo Marans. 2nd generation is those hens crossed back with a French Blue Copper Marans.) Current egg color: The chicks from this cross should lay a darker, deeper green.

That is a gorgeous group of eggs! Where did you get that Welsummer?

My Wellies just started laying again after a nice molt; this is about as dark as they'll ever be. I only have two of them, but they are wonderfully consistent layers! Since I don't have a Wellie roo, I do plan on crossing them later with an Isbar for another interesting OE combo.

Mine came from a local San Diego breeder - she's "All-American-Chick" on BYC. I'm not sure if she's still breeding Wellies or not, but I do have another friend who has one of her boys... we could make more!

If anyone is interested in the OE eggs I have currently (Am x Marans crossed back to Marans), just send me a PM. Fertility has been confirmed, and the girls are laying fairly well right now.

I'm starting to stalk my flock for the next bator batch

I sold off all the unwanted cockerels from my olive-egger & homegrown Oct 6th hatch, and ended up with a beautiful blue-copperish birchen bearded & muffed roo name Sasquatch. He has good conformation and is nice to the pullets he's with now.

And I have 3 red pullets, they look a lot like welsummers, only bluish below and with great facial hair. One pretty blue hen with nice lacing, pea combed but no facial hair. One black pullet with straight comb, no facial hair, probably a cross of my BCM and barred rock hens. One black pullet with pea comb and full beard & muff.

It got too dark to take pics by the time I was done with chores today, but I hope to post some this week and ask your opinions.

The pullets will eventually be crossed with my BCM roo, once they are laying properly, and depending on egg color. The new roo will go in with my cuckoo marans and welsummer hens that are laying some lovely eggs now. I'm hoping he has the blue egg gene.

I can't wait to see what hatches and who lays what!

Fertility is confirmed indeed! The eggs you sent me, are doing well. I have 13 that have nice veining going on. They are getting dark in there fast.

Hi all, I'm so glad to find this thread! I'm T. I'm pretty new to BYC & have been a chicken mama for almost a year now. Love my babies(young & old)!
My flock has grown A LOT especially in this new year. Ive learned so much from you all as Ive been growing the flock & gain knowledge & the courage to expand. I started with my late fathers "old girls" then bartered with a fella from walters for a bunch of girls (had no idea what I was doing, just picked the ones I liked) a cukoo maran, a bantam Brahma, red laced wyandotte, a blue andalusian, 2 leg horns(?) & 3 EE's who have all just started laying. I'm so happy!
Then I bought three barred rock pullets(one turned out to be a little cockrel) a black & a white pullets that are about six mo. old. Now I have finally found two young EE Roo's that are good boys & my girls love them. (Even the old hens!!)
Then last week I purchased 10 buff orphington & 5 white laced wyandotte chicks 2 to 2-1/2 week old!(OMG they are SO cute!) & ended up coming home with 5 baby ducks as well. Couldn't help myself!
Now that I have told you about my flock I'm so excited to say I finally got my very first olive egg saturday! TWO today! I am so happy to share with peeps like me who love a colorful egg basket!
I look forward to learning more about breeding and egg colors as I now feel confident to try my hand at hatching my own.
I'm trying not to get too excited as I am just learning & so many things can go wrong, but I have my eggs stored & am running my incubator (pre 24hr) with high hopes of success in 21days! Setting tomorrow (if I can find a thermometer/hygrometer in the morning)!
