The Olive-Egger thread!

Here are some of my OE's
love the egg color.I can not wait till mine start laying, but I still have a few months.I hatched and raising some from Dmrippy. :)they are from NYD hatch.
These are my second generation OE, the chicks that hatch out will be from OE/OE. These eggs were produced using the bluest eggs and Marans roo, some are from OE/OE.

I have a comb color difference between my olive egger cockerels, and am wondering if it indicates that I need to do something different, or if it is genetic? - Hangtown and juststruttin, this might be something you could specifically weigh in on -

I have two OE CCL x crele Penedesenca cockerels, right at 3 months old. They are from the same hatch/parents, raised in the same conditions. One has yellow legs and has always had a more vibrant comb. The other has white legs and the comb was always more pale and slightly smaller. Sorry I don't have a camera handy.

The basic difference I noticed this morning is that the roo with white legs has a blueish color at the tips of all of his comb and around the edges of his wattles. The roo with yellow legs is just as red as ever.

By the way, I am in SoCal and the weather has been lovely, although the fog came in last night and there was dew everywhere this morning.

On a side note, the OE roo with yellow legs changed eye color at the same time as the majority of his related hatchmates (about 2 months old or sooner?). The OE roo with white legs discussed above had blue eyes until almost 3 months old; they are still a pale color.
I have seven of these from Deanne(Juststruttin) that are 3 months old and none of them have big combs. I thought I had 4 pullets and 3 Cockerels but I do not know now.

Three months I a bit young. The comb likely needs to develop a bit more. The blue tips are common on colder mornings and some saw them up in Redding CA during the fires last September. Your boy will be fine and the blue tips should stop happening when he gets older.

I believe my OE are also from Deann/juststruttin, they hatched the second week of December, so not quite 3 months now.
My batch had 4 cockerels and 2 pullets, darn the odds.
The boys and girls were clearly different due to the dark chipmunk markings at birth and never had the same overall feather color/patterns. The cockerels had clearly developed combs well before 2 months, one was much redder than the other 3 - he runs with an older crowd, and daily woos an EE hen with his charming ways.

Meanwhile, I also kept his brother with the blue tips who just seems more immature, although they are almost identical in size and markings.

Hi! Newbie here. This is my Olive Egger. Do you think this is a pullet or a roo? This bird is exactly 4 weeks and 5 days old in this picture. I have no other OEs to compare it to, as I bought one each of a few breeds. Thanks for your input. (I will also post this on the "what breed/what gender" thread, but thought it would be worth the expert advice from OE people. Oh, and it is from a Blue Maran over an EE.
