I love these. Thanks for posting. This is what I am planning to cross
I use Penedesenca. They are much more heat tolerant than Marans here in California and can produce a nice olive egg still when crossed with a Ameraucana , EE , Isbar , Cream LegbarNice.
Question. To get an Olive Egger layer, I know you need a blue egg layer, and a brown egg layer. So, does it matter if it's something other than the Marans breed? Can a Welsummer..a Barnevelder..or any brown egg layer do? As long as she is bred with the EE or Ameraucuana?

nice where did you get your eggs and what variety?Ahhh. I just happen to have 4 of those eggs in my bator right now..all developing. So, have been wondering what kind of bird they are. I've heard different things..flighty, not flighty, pretty good egg layers... I am glad to hear that they are heat tolerant, we got into 3 digit weather here this year. :/
It is kind of hard to really describe them. They are not agressive but avoid people. They can be friendly but you have to feed them treats by hand every day. They run really fast but do not fly like the Icelandics. They are not super big and lay a large egg.Ahhh. I just happen to have 4 of those eggs in my bator right now..all developing. I got them from cowgirl that is on here. They are supposed to be Partridge in color.
They kind of sound like leghorns, ron explained that they are similar. My leghorn is sooo friendly. Hops right up on my lap when I sit down. Looking for treats .. of course. She will squat if I get close to her also. Used to be stand offish, but came around once she started laying.
Oh, how soon do they start to lay? Average 5 to 6 months?
I have 21-22 week olds laying now. My Crele ones. My 21 Week blacks nothing yet. I had 2 eggs from the young crele's yesterdayI got them from cowgirl that is on here. They are supposed to be Partridge in color.

My partridge I have had tend to be the most flighty but on the plus side they generally lay the darkest egg of the varietiesI got them from cowgirl that is on here. They are supposed to be Partridge in color.
