Does anyone have pics of offspring from a splash Ameracauna x black copper Marans? I have searched all morning and can't seem to bring up any images.

I have offspring from Splash Maran over Ameracauna. Mostly blue a couple black 1 oe 2 splash. Some have beards others don't some have feathered shanks, others don't. All where large body birds.

Chicks from that cross

Same chicks as 2-3 months old. Still too young to free range"Hawk bait"

A good looking roo from that batch 6 months old.


The pullets at 6 months blue, black and slpash are the OE I have a few Ameicaucanas scattered in there too

They look very nice!

I can't wait to see the color eggs they lay.

Well the egg color wasn't as dark as I wanted for the first generation cross but the egg production and quality are definitely there. The parent stock hen's egg wasn't as dark brown as my previous birds of the same type were which I imagine is why it isn't quite as "olive" as i expected.



The middle egg is a pullet egg believe it or not, next to a X-large white egg and a large brown egg from my 1 year old red star hen. My 'not quite an olive egger' pullet has been laying about 6/7 days and has already produced several double yolk eggs, not the one pictured, that is her standard size in her second week of laying. Picture taken under natural light. I am hoping my F2 generation will produce darker eggs.

Peach2u--Thank you for sharing the pics. I am putting together my new breeding plans for OEs and wondering if I will ever get back to the super dark eggs I was getting in my avatar! Starting over is so bittersweet!

Keep the Marans Rooster if you want Olive eggs. The Marans X Silver AM will make nice sexlinked babies too. The CL should also.

So for using the Marans, does it have to be a black copper for sex linked? What about a blue copper?

Solid blue or black without barring Rooster over barred Hens will do it. The black goes one way and the barring the other. They will make black sex links--roosters will have a big white dot on the head and will feather out barred. The pullets will be a solid color.

I just realized that these olive eggs are almost impossible to candle...or completely impossible...oh well...cross my fingers and hope for the best! I have eggs in the bator from this guy over these gals...he's a Wyandotte, the first girl is an F1 Olive egger and the second is an AM, so not sure what I'll get..but I think the chicks will be pretty!

mmmm I have what *should* be an oliver that hasn't laid yet. EE mom and BCM dad, she is a nice size pullet, hatched late Nov, pretty small modified pea comb. But no eggs yet. Are some of them late coming to lay? Her pure BCM hatch mate has been laying for at least two weeks now.

BCMs can take a bit of time before the first egg. POL(point of lay) can be over 25weeks. This time of year they should start laying close to average for a BCM.

Leghorns and Golden comets start from 16 to 30 weeks old. some breeds go over 30 weeks before they start laying eggs. How old are yours?

About 26 weeks and the pure BCM started laying two weeks ago, so thought it was weird the oliver hasn't started yet since she is half EE and most of those girls have started laying around that time also
