She's solid black with no crest, but has slightly feathered legs and
is a real cuddler

So, my , um , OE laid her first egg a few days ago. When I found it I was kind of thinking that one of the EE had laid a small egg. She's supposed to be f3. Le sigh. She's so pretty, one of my favorite colors. I guess I'll have to wait a fews more months to see if my second OE lays an olive egg. LOL!

Hmmm. I was just wondering if maybe CCLs aren't great for OEs because the Leghorn genes supress brown?

So, yesterday I got this egg. I'm puzzled now. This one is has olive speckles.

I have an olive egger hen and a Dominique roo. What is the chance her offspring would lay a colored egg and would it be olive or another color?

I also have an EE that lays a light brown egg...could her offspring lay a colored egg with the same rooster?

Where can I learn more about egg colors?

Blue egg shell color is dominant so the EE has no blue. No blue will come from a Dominique so the egg shell will be white. There is no way to get back to blue excep by adding a blue egg shell breed that has the blue egg shell gene.

Any poultry genetics book should have egg shell color and brown coating information in it.
