The Olive-Egger thread!

I have an interesting story about this pullet. She is from an EE hen x blue marans roo. I knew with the EE parentage, she had only a 50/50 chance of getting the blue egg gene for a chance at an olive egger. Well, she started laying right at 20 weeks and the eggs are cream colored! I thought they would at least be brown.

Here's our Olive Egger! She's supposed to be a AmeraucanaxMaran. I can't wait until we can know for sure. She's about 12 weeks old right now.

Kind of goes to show you how much (or little) brown is actually needed to make the egg 'olive' colored. I use Red Star hens that lay darker than other breed eggs for my OE and have enjoyed the color produced and the productivity of the hens. I love the feather coloring on that bird! Always been a big fan of blue with red leakage.

Thanks. Yes, she is a beautiful girl. I hatched 7 and only kept this one out of 4 girls because she was so pretty and I was hoping she'd be an OE. Obviously, I should have kept one of the plain black girls, whose mother was an OE.

I bought hatching eggs from a local woman...they are BCM roo over wheaten ameraucana hens. I had 8 eggs, 5 hatched. They are 11½ weeks old. I feel like they might all be pullets, but I just can't imagine the odds/luck!!??

Can you all please weigh in- I have not hatched my own OE's before, so the cross is throwing me off on the traits. And shouldn't they all lay the olive eggs, if they are first generation?

#1- this is the ONLY one I halfway suspect as a roo, only because it feathered out a bit later
