The Olive-Egger thread!

These my three from my first try at incubation

This is my cockerel called Blue or Stew he is F-1 olive egger two green eggs probably my black sex-link I have 2 one brown from a barred rock

Do OE'S egg color change drastically? The bottom row starting at the green egg and moving right are from my only OE (a legbar / rhodebar cross ) . We know the blue on the far right is hers because she was in the nest box this morning and we waited for her to finish when we checked. I have two legbars, and I've gotten three blue eggs the last two days.
Thanks!
An olive egg is a blue shell with a brown coating....the shell will stay pretty much the same color, but the brown coating can vary.
I've had green and olive eggs go almost totally blue by the end of the annual laying cycle just before they molt.

Latest OE pullet, her first egg(a 40g DY!) was laid within an hour or so of when her matriarch had to be put down a few weeks ago. Serendipity, Fate, Coincidence.....whatever you want to call it.

I finally got some pics of her today. So sire is Welsummer, mama was a blue laying EE.
Didn't think she would lay green....yellowish legs, no beard, crinkled single comb...
......but sure enough, look at that.

Now these are not the Deep Dark Olive most of us desire, Woody's sister lays a mediocre wellie egg so......

Top 3 are from hens of last years hatching, same cock x hen.
Bottom egg is from LLP just this morning, big for a pullet egg - probably a double yolker, she had to really push to get it out.(ETA:just weighed that sucker 68g!!)

Pretty variety. I only got ONE olive green egg from my hen, the rest of hers have been light blue. I was so excited when she laid the first one because it was such a beautiful olive. And every one since has been blue. She's 1 now and so far, still all blue except for that first one.

Here's an odd one....this bird is from a Wellie cock over an olivish laying hen(mix of EE over an amberlink).
Single comb, lots of beard and wattles...

....and lays what I call a 'khaki' colored egg...shell is blue under coating....in center of basket.
Brown eggs in basket are from same cross

It is interesting that when you get so much brown over coating the shell it just starts to look brown more than green. That and the more productive the layer if the blue fades under it doesn't help.

I was always impressed by several of our Red Sex links with how dark their egg shells stayed despite taking only 1 day off of egg laying each month.

Have the turner in place on the hova bator so six in it and another 6 in the joenel12
trying to repeat the blue chick from the first hatch

My first olive egg from my very first breeding. EE x Wellsummer
I'm so excited!!!!!! Just got 3 Aura can as a month ago. Will be great to see what they produce!
