The Olive-Egger thread!

400

Its been a VERY long time since I was on, so I had to finally post what I joined this thread initially dreaming about! That olive is out of one of my F2 OEs and this next month or so I'll be separating for F3s! So happy with my eggs so far.

Love seeing everyone's colors!

What a beautiful collection! Congrats!

Have a question. I bought some Wheaten Marans and Wheaten Amerucanas from well know breeders. The marans lay really dark eggs and the amerucanas lay light blue eggs. Last year I bred the maran roo to the amercanas to make olive eggers. I only kept one hen from the hatch and she is laying brown eggs.
My question is with this combination should I have had 0 brown egg layers?

I would suspect that tho your 'ameraucana' laid blue eggs, she is in fact an Easter Egger.
Did you only have the one cockbird?

Yes only the one maran roo. I feel that you maybe right. I was surprised to see a brown egg with this combo.

Too bad you didn't keep more chicks, huh?
Can you post a pic of her...clean well lit full side shot?

Also did you have her in with other Roos even three months ago? When wintering?
4 weeks is about the max sperm will stay viable.

The Wheaten Maran was the only rooster I had then. I will try and get a picture posted. She looks like a wheaten amerucana but a little larger.
