Sweet, sweet pics....SO adorable! Just a word of caution - you don't have them on cedar chips, do you? The oil that makes them smell so good to us can be toxic to chickens. Sorry...not trying to be a wet blanket! They are super cute!

Oh - my grandbabies. So cute. I'd bet the farm #5 is a male and possibly #3 - #4 is anybody's guess (I haven't gotten any/many that color) - 1 and 2 will be blue females. If #s 3 & 4 are blue (and it's hard to tell from pics) then they could be females also.

Those are my guesses.

In my experience the ones that are black and white and look like pure BCMs turn out to be boys. The ones that are blue (whether light blue or dark blue) turn out to be females. And I've rarely gotten one that looks like #4 but I did just add a new roo to the pen. They are so cute and I'm glad your broody was able to hatch them. I hope she's a good mama.

So cute! I'm hatching out some Serama/Bantam Araucana chicks now. I will have some chicks from my darkest egg laying French Maran hen that has feathered legs. The rooster is my true Araucana rooster that is smooth faced and rumpless. They will hatch later and some will be for sale. Some may be rumpless, the last hatch was more than 50% rumpless. I think they will be sex linked, the pullets being black with red flecks and the little roosters will be barred.

FINALLY I can also say that I technically have Olive Eggers now. . . I've got 6 eggs under a broody Ameraucana, 2 of them are Araucana crosses.

The only thing that stresses me is that this is her first time brooding, she just began egg laying some weeks ago, and she takes LONG breaks, as if the eggs are in no hurry to be warmed up again.

Due to have some Olive Eggers in 3 weeks!!

My broody Ameraucana was iffy at first. But then she turned into a full blown biting velociraptor. She doesn't want me messing with her or her eggs. She's not budging off that nest except for her 1 time a day of eat, drink, poo.
