The Olive-Egger thread!

Hi,,,I am new to this Olive layer thing. I love the color so I now have 2 2wk old cuckoo x Amer. One has a peacomb other has single. Both are black with a cream spot on top of their heads. The father is the cuckoo. What are my chances that I will get a olive egg and I believe I read that the barring is passed to the opposite sex? I also without a thought got a barred rock cross with an Amer....she is 12 wks old....do you think she will lay a olive mentioned above have slate legs. Thanks so much.

Barring only passes to the opposite sex if the mother was barred, father was not. Otherwise you get a 100% or a 50% barred chance, either gender.

A barred rock x Ameraucana just makes an Easter Egger that lays green eggs.

A Cuckoo Marans x Ameraucana makes a green egger or an Olive Egger, depending on how good of quality your Cuckoo Marans is. A lot of them lay a simple brown egg, though, which can result in green egg offspring.

Ok How do you know what the standards are for a Oliver layer? Thanks for the information! At this point an egg will be nice. I have 50ish chickens....17 are young and the other aren't laying!

There's not really a "standard," I just personally consider an Oliver Egger as a bird that actually lays an olive green or really dark green colored egg, who's parents laid or had dark egg genes.

Question here......... I just got a couple of Wellsummers X EE. Will they lay an olive colored egg? That was what I was hoping for when I got them. They should start laying anytime now. I know that the wellsummers lay a darker egg. I hope I wont be disappointed. They are nice chickens so I'm sure I will be happy with whatever they lay.

Thanks Illia...... I really wanted some of the darker olive eggs but I can live with the lighter color. At least for a while.
