one more thought about the Empordanesa; without arguing semantics with anybody inclined to do so, think of Empordanesa as a White Penedesenca - crazzy lunatics.

Hi Wynette!

Sorry to pull this up from way on back in the thread, but I'm trying to get a sense of the exact bloodlines in my gals, so when I set a few test eggs tonight (I was supposed to set Saturday for the New Year's Day hatch but still waiting on some shipped eggs, thanks USPS

) I'll have some idea of what I might end up with. Where exactly did you put in the blue egg gene? I'm assuming (you know what happens when you do that!
tongue.png
) the Penedesenca X Marans momma was covered by a roo w/ the blue egg gene and the offspring were then bred back to a Marans rooster?

In case anybody else wants to help me play "Guess That Offspring's Egg Color" (<----which is truly my sole real goal right now, in combination with egg laying ability, my egg customers go nuts for the fun colored eggs and allows me the ability to sell them at $4 a dozen in my area) here are the combos I'm setting. While, we've had chickens for a long time, I'm new to the world of egg color genetics, so any explanation is greatly, greatly appreciated!!

We currently have two roosters and both of them mate regularly with ladies.

This guy.....EExAmeraucana (older picture of him, hatched from a very nice blue egg)

And this guy....(One of Wynette's OE from the mixture described above)

So given that either fella could be the father, what would you expect from the following pairings....

* Single combed Olive Egger (from Wynette's batch) that lays a nice olive egg..
(Color shown in photo is relatively washed out compared to the true color)

* Pea combed OE (from Wynette's batch) that lays similar to above, but heavily speckled

* Single combed OE (from Wynette's batch) that lays a gorgeous dark brown speckled egg

* BC Maran that lays a decent, dark brown egg

What do you guys think?? THANK YOU!!

What pretty pics, Neeley!

Yes, my Penedesenca-bred hens were fathered by a Blue Ameraucana (sorry I didn't post that part earlier). Does that rooster out of my breeding have a modified single comb, or does he have a row of side sprigs...???? Or is it a modified pea comb? Would love to see a closeup of the comb on him. Gosh, he sure is pretty...reminds me of a blue copper marans! I just love the beard/muffs on your other roo, too!

Good morning Wynette!

Hope you're staying warm up there!

You know, I have no real idea how to describe his comb to you. I just love this fella, he is truly a gentle giant and such a sweetie to the girls. Here are some other photos of his comb that hopefully better illustrate. Unfortunately, I don't have one with me at work that shows it from straight ahead.

Anybody have any guess on what I'll end up with considering the proposed pairings?
