I may be wrong here, but if you got black chicks from that cross, than I dont believe your roo is genetically splash. He's probably blue. If he were splash, I would think all those babies would be blue.
I was thinking the same thing.
As for the olive egger roosters, it's really an unknown what gene's they carry. And since they don't lay eggs, it's harder to tell. I'm working with an olive egger roo, as an experiment, but my offspring aren't laying yet. (they are close though)
Halo & jeremy ~ Maybe that's my problem -- What I think is a splash is actually a blue...?? I had compared online photos of them and decided they must be splashes because they weren't dark enough all over to be blues. But I'm also on the Ameraucana thread asking about the possibility of a splash roo (the one in my avatar & the brother to the OE's daddy--both look just alike) and a blue hen throwing out a black, because the 6mo Amer. roo I have from them is SO dark. However, they have said on that thread that a *blue* could be really dark and hard to tell it's not a black...??
I'm getting more and more confused!
Happy Chooks ~ Well, poo. So I guess to darken the olive eggs if they need it, breeding him back to my FBCM hens may not do anything. Sounds like really the only sure way to do that is to breed hens back to roos where you know more positively what you've got. I'm thinking there's no reason to hang on to one of these OE roos, if this is the case. I'm somewhat limited on space and don't see any reason to create difficulties where they aren't worth it.
Thanks for your input, BYCrs! I'm going to go take new pics of all of them to post and let you guys tell me what you think I have!
