So Chooks - how's our boy doing? I still think he's the best looking olive egg roo I've seen, but then again I may be partial.

So, I've been doing some reading in attempt to figure this out on my own -- but...

Is it better to have an OE roo or a BCM roo with the OE girls? Will you get just as good of egg color from the OE's offspring as from the BCM's offspring? Why/why not? What are the dependent/variable factors to consider here?

The BCM roo will probably darken the eggs more so than the OE roo. However, statistically, only ~50% of the offspring will actually inherit the blue egg gene, the rest are useless.

I think he's handsome too.

He's doing fine. I'm awaiting my test hatchers to see what their girls are laying. Cheryl has a pullet that I'm POSITIVE is from him (from her markings and feathered shanks), so I'm eagerly waiting to see what color eggs she lays.

Sorry, BYCers....I'm back again.

LOL!

I have an opportunity to purchase some nice Wheaten Marans hatching eggs (if my hubby doesn't kill me for even considering it!). Now, my question is this ~ what do you get if you put a splash or a blue Ameraucana over a wheaten ~ as far as the bird itself? Is that how you get a Blue Wheaten?? Anyone else tried this combination? I understand the breeding blues rules, but I have no idea how the wheaten would fall into it.

I really want the awesome variety in egg color, but I also want a pretty chicken! Love those Blue Copper OEs a few of you have been posting!

Right, it would take multiple generations of breeding the Blue offspring back to a pure Wheaten bird in order to fully establish the color pattern and have it breed true.

I ended up keeping mine and I am glad now I bred him to my OE girl and have some of his babies in the bator now.
