The Olive-Egger thread!

On no!!! I'm so sorry to hear that!!

If I were you, I'd keep them in the incubator and see what happens. They will likely hatch a day or so later than expected, but with the outage this early in their development I don't think you'll have as many losses as you would if it happened later (which is when my power tends to go out!) in incubation.

I'm sending massive amounts of

your way - it's always so hard when you know you've got everything set up right and then nature throws a wrench into things.

Please let me know how it goes, we can always ship you another box - you need to have olive eggs!

I'm with Alilcefelldown on this one - keep a very heavy blanket/comforter nearby for power failures. Often, if you are home to catch it, you can cover the bator & the blanket helps to keep the heat in for a bit longer. BEST of luck, and I'd call it day 7 actually, since there's no harm done in leaving them in the turner a day or so longer than the 18-day suggested period.

She just looks like she's got a scowl on her face because of those "eyebrows".

Do NOT call it a loss!

My last hatch we lost power for 3 consecutive nights from Day 10-13 of incubation. The longest was 6 hours without power (while we were sleeping) and when I woke up and realized it was out, I checked on the incubator and it was so cold it wasn't even registering a temperature. I got it back up to temp as fast as I could when the power came back on, but the next night we lost power again.

I thought I'd be extremely lucky to get a "few" chicks from the hatch. I did lose some eggs from the power failures, but of the 31 eggs that went into lockdown, 23 healthy chicks hatched (a day late though). I couldn't believe it. All but 1 of the remaining eggs were late term quitters (I'm sure due to the power outages), the last one pipped the wrong end and died and I didn't know it since I hatch in cartons.

Keep those eggs cookin!

Very pretty. Who's the dark egg mommy/daddy? I'd certainly love to know how you got that color.
