I have new olive egger babies. 14 out of 15 hatched! I put a blue copper maran over EE's green eggs only. I got a rainbow of colors. I was surprised the blue wasn't dominate like the splash. My splash maran roo gave off splash/blue babies. My BO is a great mama. This is her second batch this season. Do they look like yours Donna?


Buffy with the 1st batch 12 out of 15 eggs dad was a splash maran.

I had lots of chipmunks! I was kinda surprised too!

I guess that's what makes EE's fun. You never know what will pop up. I sexed mine at day one. Looks like all the chipmunks are girls and the black/blue ones are boys for the most part. I'll have to wait and see if my sexing was accurate. I put bands on the boys. Anyway I got my hands on some Splash marans again. I'm hoping for a nice roo out of the babies.

I've been anxiously waiting for the first egg from my black americauna X black copper marans. I was hanging onto the hope that it still could be a hen even though it had large tail feathers and sparred with a young roo. I'm no longer in denial since it crowed this morning, lol. My question is, is there any reason to keep him around for the developement of an olive egg laying hen? Other than my mix, the only blue or dark egg birds I have are 1 EE hen, 1 black copper marans hen and 1 blue americauna roo. If I crossed him with my EE or my BCM, are the offspring going to be olive eggers?

I am going to keep a couple of Olive Egger roos and try them with my Olive Eggers. Might get some nice color eggs that are consistent in the long run.

YOu will get a nice vriety of egg colors if you cross him with one of your hens. Because he carries two egg colors genetically, you will get other colors when you cross him to the marans; and another set of various colors if you cross him with the blue Am. Becomes a rainbow of colors. If you want ONLY olives, marans x am is a sure bet as their offspring will all carry one blue gene and one dark gene, so the eggs will all look alike. It's the next generation where many more colors are possible.
