The Olive-Egger thread!

You didn't sound curt to me---Honestly I didn't see your second post asking about egg color again. I was reading elsewhere when I realized I hadn't answered your question and just slapped the info into another reply.

Yup--he's handsome!! If it helps, a friend suggested keeping the boys in a coop to keep the noise down until the neighbors were up. If you have a permit--you have rights too. DOn't give into bullying. Hold your ground with in the rules of the permit. THe fewer the number of boys, the less cockadoodle- doo--they like to out do each other at my house.

I didn't mean to come off as curt, I've been told I tend to sound as such when typing, I LOVE the excitement other flock owners have!! As my friends cannot "get" why I talk to my gals!!!! LOL

I'm just really flustered bc the last accidental Roo I had, their father, within 2mo of him "finding" his crow a member of the neighborhood association was knocking at my door informing me they could hear him..... Most of my close neighbors I give eggs & veggies to for free as my yard has the best sun comparatively & they do not own flocks, so they like my "mini farmstead"

It's also a bite bc I LOVE the feathering on this lil OE!!!! Of 5, 4 were a lighter blue splash then there's him, he is SOOOOOO pretty IMO... Especially when the Metallic Gold with darker Blue started coming in, even though they are roo saddle feathers

Oh I am dreading the wait... these home bred ones I have until Dec for them to lay, I have a freebie who should be anytime but her's will be light as she is a Barred Rock x Ameraucana.....

So, do I have this right: Oliver x EE = EE(darker than mom's) or OE(lighter than Aunts')

BUUUUUUT, if I'm going to keep him into maturity enough to collect up hatching eggs, I could also cross him with his father's sister: OE x Maran = ???

OE x maran = all a darker olive
OE x EE = OE and EE, shouldn't be lighter though anything can happen
Hen can only give a blue gene, he can give blue or brown shell, and/or brown paint. SO now you have many possibilities. The brown paint can get diluted.

Fun isn't it to figure out how to get more colors. you can breed him to both!

Somewhere there is a chart showing all the possibilites --HEY YOU GUYS--where is that chart?????

THANK YOU!! I dont remember where I found it, other than I had googled "egg" & "chicken" clip art & saved a lot of them into an "odds & ends" folder.... I use it on my labels, FB & now here!

I also do not remember where I found that OE vs EE graphic either, forgot I had..... Guess I didn't need to ask "what'll happen" when the answer was stashed in the Olive Eggers folder, in my Chickens' folder, on my desktop!! LOL

I have a chicken pics folder on my Desktop, next to my kids pics folder LOL. Then I have a very full folder in my Bookmarks for CHICKENS.... I really need to clean that out too... saved a BUNCH of stuff that I just KNOW now and don't need to refer to it anymore... like BBS breeding... I think I have that engraved in my brain!

I have a huge folder of links too, but now know most!! I compulsively right-click things of interest!! LOL I think there's more chicken stuff on this laptop (and my phone) than everything else combined!!!

Is that the graphic you were thinking of? IDK where I saved it from, but it was IN my Olive Eggers' folder! LOL..... & I think I'm gonna breed him to my Blue Copper Maran (his Aunt) & go for 2nd Generation pullets. That'll also encourage the blue with copper/wheaten throughout..... since I have 3, 1st Generation OE Pullets out of his clutch & an Easter Egger I adopted!!

As for his time with me, my permit is not a "set in stone deal" as my county has not written in laws drawing the lines on backyard flocks in residentials.... so I have the okay, BUT if neighbors have an issue I can be asked to remove the flock.... stinks!!

Though I will say that I LOVE having a Roo-less flock.... it is amazing how the hens demeanor changes: less pecking order tussles!! I work for a Veterinarian on his Thoroughbred breeding farm. He'll let me put him up there for temporary holding & I can take up the hen & keep them in a stall to get my eggs....

Now I just don't know if I want to breed as soon as he is ready, or wait until spring!!
