The Olive-Egger thread!

Haha...she is not supposed to lay a green egg..... genetically speaking. No pea comb.....sceince does not know everything LOL.

I guess no one told her that...

:yuckyuck   I just use it as a guide. I know it happens both ways, just not often.  I think they say it is something like 3% with straight combs will lay a color egg.... I think it is much higher than that.

I'm glad to hear that! I am waiting on 6 olive eggers to start laying. One did just start, but I don't know which, and her egg is a nice green. Two of them have straight combs though, so now I have hope that they might lay olive regardless.
I'll have to post photos eventually, but I can't do that on this machine.

Don't give up, but don't get your hopes too high either. Still not the norm. I had 2 pretty EE that had straight combs.... LOVED the looks of both, but neither laid a color egg. I know it happens. I knew someone that crossed WL and EE all the time and most of her pullets with straight combs still laid a color egg. I have a couple of pullets from the same kinda cross and I may just keep them to see. I also have several Olive Egger pullets with straight combs.... so far I personally have not had it happen.

All of my Olive Egger girls have straight combs.

all three -shadow (the grey one)is 25 weeks, the other 2 are 24

Shadow

Coco

Coco is the one that looks very different. Her body is shorter and wider, her feet are whitish grey, and her tail is about half the length of the other 2. Her comb is also much smaller, but I know know if it's just because she's slower to mature.

I wonder if it depends more on the line. all of this breeders chicks I know have grown up to lay olive or green eggs from what I hear. I have heard this before.
I just know what I have raised so we shall see,

I am sure this has been discussed before - but so many posts so I would ask here quickly!

Has anybody bred a Cream Legbar rooster with a marans hen for olive eggers? I have been thinking of this, but havent invested in cream leg bars yet (because of the price obviously) so I need to make a sound decision.

I want a straight comb bird with no beards/muffs that comes from aranucanas (sp.?). Plus Cream Legbars are supposedly to be a pound or two heavier than ameraucanas.

What is the offspring like? I know the auto sexing will be out of the window when this cross is made.

Thanks so much in advance.

Painted the girls toenails today...just to mess with my boyfriend, but I kinda like it LOL.

That first bird with the bluish tint and the cute little beard is fabulous. Love it's looks! (And toenail polish)

I'm keeping her! =)
