The Olive-Egger thread!

My lav silver duckwing birds have spots and chipmunk baby stripes.

I just didn't expect anything to EXPRESS this first cross. I didn't see any chipmunk looking stripes, just the little spots. Might be normal.

I will tag them and see what happens. I am only keeping the pullets from this cross so I can breed them back to my partridge roo.

Speaking of Partridge... I just hatched some "partridge splits" I don't know what else to call them. They all have very faint spots on their heads.... would that be right? Is my splash hiding some barring? or would partridge show a a slight spot? I know partridge would have chipmunk stripes. They are a very even color with a little tiny spot on their heads..... IDK if that would be normal.
hmm dont know. My crele had a white dot on the head on the females. males to but it was larger and he was more grey females where nut brown.
he is the one in the front. rest are the females. they are now 6 or 7 months old

I'm going to try it, can't hurt. If anything I would hope to get some other color other then black. I could place a couple nice Olive Egger hens in with the CL and his girl and still get both. That won't be till next spring. I just pick up a pair yesterday from chicks4myfamily. Very friendly chicks. My camera died and is charging so no pics

I got my first HOME GROWN Olive Egg yesterday!

It was kinda gray but still it was an egg from my pullets

maybe it is a sign of things to come... more eggs

I am going to TRY over the fall to breed the Olive Eggers to Olive Eggers and see what I get. They may have to leave in the spring when new breeds are ready for a pen but we will see.

I just hatched my BCM or Olive Egger/FBCM and Lavender and the Olive Eggers are hatching as we speak. One has feathered legs and is so fat it is have problems moving. I kinda waddles. I think it had a huge yolk. The other one is not feather. Only my girls have feathered legs and I don't know if I will be keeping them. I have a pen of Black clean legs running with a Lavender Ameraucana cockerel, I'm working on their muffs and beards, I hope that maybe I can get a splash from these girls to add a little bit of color.

I don't believe lavender will give you splash. Splash requires a blue gene as two blue genes makes a lighter and lighter blue until you have nearly white which is referred to as splash. With lavender it takes two lavender genes to show lavender with on gene you will have a split ie the bird will carry a lavender gene but not show the color.
