The Omega Rocks: The Last & Ultimate Barred Plymouth Rock Flock

I am amazed at all these dog food commercials from companies saying that their food is "fresh" and "unprocessed".
(BTW, cutting up food, cooking it, combining it with other ingredients, all processing.
And there is no legal description in pet food for the word fresh, so pretty much anything can be called that.)

They show pictures of dogs that apparently have lost huge amounts of weight.

Well, I've got news for them. If you feed any dog less calories they will lose weight. And if your dog food costs you six times more than it used to, you'll probably be a little more careful about how much you give them. Most pets are overweight because they are overfed, not because they are on bad food.

Not knocking the foods, they're probably great, but for the amount they cost and for the minimal health benefits you might expect over a good quality well-balanced regular pet food, you'd have to have a lot of spare income to make it worth it.

@1muttsfan, Mary, the longevity of certain breeds has gone way down as well and it's either bad genetics or substandard food. We used to raise AKC Dobermans who lived to around 12 years old, but now, they rarely seem to live that long, avg lifespan is more like 9 years. I do see a lot of fat dogs and cats nowadays. They can barely drag their bellies around, but I think that is not their dog food, but the other "treats" they're given. You're so right, they are processed by any definition.
Oh my word Cyn, they are something else! Feisty just doesn't cover it 😂 🦖
You see why they moved out today!

LOLOL! Woke up this morning after worrying about those babies in my sleep! It was 70 here yesterday in my corner of Alabama. This morning on my back porch it's 34! Seems to me that winters here are longer, colder, and more erratic than they were 10 years ago. Today I'm starting my first hatch of the year. (And I never plant my garden before May 1 either.) Like I said--I worry. :fl

Yes, this weather season has been insane here in the N. GA mountains with extreme cold, high winds, scary storms, etc. Tonight, we're having a doozy, they say. That metal roof in the barn where the chicks are makes it sound like the entire world is falling on it. They'll likely be nervous for a bit when that hits. We had 80's for a few days and now, we're back in the 50's for most highs.
I have to change their leg bands today, all of them, though not all are really tight yet, but seems prudent to do them all at once every few days. That will slow down at a certain point. Some are growing ultra fast with thick legs. The one who hatched a day after the others is still the smallest in the group, but I would not call him a runt. They all did great yesterday. The sparring was out of control, but they were having a blast, I think.

It's 34* here this morning too. We lost power during the night. I took some heat packs out to the chicks in the brooder. But then the hubby and I decided to bring all of them in the house. We put them in the cat carrier and put that in the downstairs bathtub and closed the door so the dogs and cats wouldn't bother them. Our wood stove keeps it pretty warm down there. As we were carrying the chicks to the house hubby said " you watch, the power will come on as soon as we get them in the house". I said it'll probably come on after we get settled back in bed. Guess what happened 🤣 As soon as we got comfy the power came back on.

The chicks are doing great in the barn. I went into their pen a few times to check on them today, sat on the lower roost shelf and watched them. As I was standing up to leave awhile ago, one little man decided that I was his best friend. He ran up to me right at my feet. I reached down and stroked his chest and he just stood there, then he stepped into my hand. He's super calm and his barring on the part of the wings that have come in is very crisp. I think I heard him whisper, "Pick me! Pick me!" :love

By the way, they are already jumping on the first roost shelf which is about 8-9" off the floor.
