The Omega Rocks: The Last & Ultimate Barred Plymouth Rock Flock

Pics
Well, guess what? I put up an ad at the co-op today and just got a call. A local guy who lives near me is coming to get all five of the extra males, as long as nothing happens to stop him. I will tell him who I'd keep for flock rooster (the Bouncer) if he's of a mind to do that, but I have no way to dictate what he does with them. As I was catching them one by one to take to a small covered pen in the former bantam coop so the guy could view them without going into my barn, Duncan attacked my shoes again so he earned his Crock Pot Status. If the man hadn't been coming to get five roosters, i'd have executed that big beautiful jerk on the spot.
So....:fl

That's great news about finding someone to take them. Not so great about Duncan. I'm sure it'll be a relief to see them gone.
They've been a problem for awhile, never want to go inside when I allow them some time outside to exercise and dust bathe. And then, there's Duncan. I don't think that The Bouncer deserves a crock pot and all I can do is suggest that if he's keeping one as a flock rooster, that would be the one I would choose. They're in the little covered pen and it's cloudy so it's getting a bit dusky and he's not supposed to be here for another 30 minutes. Maybe that will subdue them a bit and I can catch them in the pen, which is twice as big as their inside pen they had. At least they won't be eating my feed for another few weeks. I'm exhausted from having to do so much alone around this place and they were so challenging to deal with separately. I do think I took Hazel's boyfriend, though. She was staring longingly into their pen and wanted in there with them.

Let me say that when I tell someone these boy are big, they have no concept just how big. Guy and his son or grandson came to get them and they did take all of them. He wants me to keep his number in case I hatch from this flock and have others, which I will. But they brought two cages, one a dog cage for a small dog and a double sided poultry cage. They needed a cage the size of a Great Dane for these guys. Three were crammed into the dog cage and one each in the poultry cage, but one of those, the split point guy was literally stuffed in there. I don't manhandle my birds, even those who give me trouble and I have too much empathy for birds who made my life so hard for awhile, I guess. I did tell him which rooster I'd keep if I wanted a really good, intelligent flock rooster. So, maybe he'll keep the bouncer, who knows? At least my work load is lightened by quite a bit now and my feed won't disappear as quickly. Whew. Now I can concentrate on Nathaniel, Angus and their girls.
By the way, Hazel has been hanging around the nests a lot and she squats in my arms when I catch her. I can't see her laying that early even with all the signs she's giving. Jamie says it would likely be October for them, but she may fool us both.

Sometimes you just gotta grit your teeth and do what needs doing.

My sympathies. :hugs

I know. And I did. I had to be the tough one here. My husband has no stomach for this stuff. I don't either, but I didn't want to keep five males here eating the expensive food and causing trouble every single day. Duncan attacked my shoes when I was trying to catch them all and as I was carrying him to the little pen where we show sale birds to customers, I told him that if that man wasn't expecting five roosters, I'd wring his neck right then and be done with him. I came really close, lemme tell you. And it still might happen anyway, but I won't be the one taking him out.
