Chapter 1:
"Wake up!" The voice jolted me from my peaceful sleep.
"Come on Alexa! Aren't you excited to be moving into our new house? I am!" I rolled over and said,
"Five more minutes Bella!"
"Come on big sis!"
"Fine!" I got up and got dressed in a black t shirt with a chibi cat on it that said "What? I'm tough!" and blue jeans. It was every middle schooler's worst nightmare to be leaving their old school and friends. The only bright spot in this sea of darkness was the fact that I, after months of begging, am finally getting a dog after the move. I sighed and finished packing the rest of my stuff. We had moved all the furniture a week ago so I only had to roll up my sleeping bag and get my phone to be ready to go. I checked my phone for texts. There was one from my best friend Erin. I read it:
[Good luck at your new house!]
Yeah right, like that was going to happen.
[I have to split a room with Bella!
] I texted back. At least we'd convinced my mom to get a divider so we could have our own rooms, more or less. I dragged my feet to get in the car.
Bella sang the whole way to the new house. Not that I cared. It finally got to me as we got to our new street and I considered pulling out my earplugs for the ten seconds that remained in the car ride, but then we pulled into our driveway. The house was made of bricks and it was square, with arching windows. The forest that surrounded it made it look like a haven for those that went there. I went in the front door.
"I hope you like your new rooms!" Mom yelled as I went upstairs. I went to my room dreading the first encounter with it, but gasped when I saw it. It was shimmering blue, with a window that overlooked a pond in the forest. The bed was my old bed, which gave some sense of familiarity to the room. I went to my new computer, which had been a late birthday present because we had been busy moving things on my birthday. I logged on and saw that it had a new game I'd never seen before. There was also a note from Mom:
[Heres the game everyone's talking about! Its so realistic that you think you're in the game! Hope you're not too disappointed about moving] I read it and smiled. Mom sure knew how to cheer me up. I pressed the icon on the holo-screen. The game blossomed around me. I was in a dark blue room that looked like it went on forever. The green text on the ceiling said,
[Please wait, analyzing you.]
I sighed and waited for it to analyze me. I wanted to look different than myself, with my black hair and brown eyes. Too bad the developers hadn't thought of including that feature.
[You have been analyzed. Please choose your in-game species.]
I tapped a button that said "fairy" and chose the button that let me have black bird wings. I made my character's name Raven and waited for it to load. The game said, [character creation complete], and the world went black. When it cleared up, I was in the game's first town.
