Pedro,
So sorry to hear about your peeps. I have been sick so I just now had a chance to read your posts. I hope the rest of your babies are doing well. You are a very good chick daddy. I like that you are so optimistic and still see your glass as half full. I would say with the new addition you can now call your glass 3/4 full. Good luck with your peeps and please when you feel up to it post some chick pics. Your babies are very cute.

Pedro, I live in Wyoming and have discovered after many attempts that you cannot order chicks from basically anywhere until it warms up. The distance plus the cold equals dead babies. I did it three times from three different places last spring before I figured it out. Wait until it warms up to have the rest of your babies shipped and you will save yourself a lot of distress. Or you can always get an incubator and try to hatch some eggs

I ordered from Ideal in November before it got really cold, but there was a cold snap and half of the died. They sent the rest in December during a "warm snap" and all but one made it on the second try. Temps are more important than shipping, and certainly shipping isn't the fault of the hatchery.

So sorry Pedro. I was really hoping for better news from you. Yep, I think it definitely pays to wait. :aww

Hey Pedro. I'm really sorry that you went through all that. Poor lil guys.

I think people are right about the cold though. After the ordeal of shipping the roos a few weeks ago, I found out talking to USPS folks that many truck drivers don't know to put the chicks up in the cab to keep them warm (unless some conscientious and more knowledgeable person asks them to), and they're exposed for the whole trip to whatever temp is outside. And in the distribution centers, they may or may not be put somewhere warm.

It's also possible that one side of the box was facing outside.

But, I'm sure you'll be a great Papa chick for all those little babies that you still have.
