The peeps grow so fast! Three weeks old!

Lyla is dreaming of chicken poop, not wings! Dogs are so gross.

Casper loves his peep! Funny how different species make friends...even though they speak different languages. There must be some type of common communication between them that says, "Don't worry, I'm not going to eat you!"

These pictures are sooo cute! My animals love the baby chicks too, but more in a "you are going to taste so good" kinda way.....

Maybe it a retriever thing? Lyla and her younger sisters are a hunting dogs for sure. Her younger sister brings me baby wild turkeys she catches. They are dripping with slobber and pretty scared but unharmed. She always looks so confused when I let them go. Rats and mice though both dogs will kill if they can catch!

Cute pictures! I wish my dogs would be nice to the chicks. We had an incident today where one of the chicks got loose and one of our dogs was chasing it. I don't know if the poor chick was more afraid of the dog or of me screaming at the dog. Luckily the chick was unharmed.

Our 13 year old black lab knows not to even LOOK at the chicks when they are out of their cage. I've tried numerous times to introduce them to her in a one-on-one environment but she turns her head away and does her best to ignore. She's a good dog, because even she knows she can't be trusted with them.

If they were out and I wasn't there, though, that would be a different matter.

That is lucky you got there on time to save your peep!

Yes, I find retrievers have self-control...but not always unless you are there to remind them! I give a couple of slices of bread all crumbled up to the grown up chickens in the morning. And every time I turn around Lyla is scarfing it up. She knows it's bad....but she won't stop! If she viewed my chickens as her food it would be all over!

my pup bichon friese is okay with the adults birds - although i worry more about the rooster hurting HIM.. i worry that the roo doesnt yet know the dog could eat him... dog tolerates but i worry roo will push him too far,,,. but he really is pretty good about it
