We had a minor scare tonight.....DS came inside and told us that the thing in the avaiary was beeping......mr muddy got dressed and went to find that the thermostat was reading 39* He grabbed the new heater and tools to fix it and when he got out there, he found that the birds had moved the thermostat into a crack near the window so that it was picking up the outdoor temp he checked it for damgage, got it re-routed and actual temp was around 50* where it should be! Crisis Averted

Whew.. close call..

I lost an incubator full of eggs once like that kind of. The sender for the thermostat snuck outside the door when I closed it. I never noticed it.

It roasted the eggs overnight. It was reading 105. It appears the backup wafer failed too..

well i just made mr muddy go and wrangle all the finches and parakeets inside. the temp is down to 22* (11* w/windchill) with no forecast to get above freezing until noon on saturday!! the bird shed is staying around 58 but the silly birds didn’t want to stay inside. I will update in the morning! It’s also light snow!

Following another check, mr muddy said it looks like everyone finally settled down and found their perch to sleep!!!

Actual temp right now is in the teens.....real feel temp near zero. And we had a slightly white Christmas

They aren’t what I’d call happy but they are alive and well!!!!
