Karen, who has never cockadoodle dooed or hit on the ladies in his short life, has performed the unimagined. We have LOTS of roos, some aren’t even ours and just found their way here 🙄 Huge giant roos, tiny bantam roos, and me just waiting for one of them to teach our dog a lesson. She’s gone from high prey drive to manageable with a lot of work, but I still don’t trust her an inch. I started feeding in the evenings to encourage better foraging and both groups of chickens are now spreading out through the yard instead of under their respective trees. Karen and Kevin are some of the most adventurous (maybe because they’re a bit outcast, but not bullied). Out I go with the dog to potty and see the babies’ food dish is empty. I turn my back for five seconds and the next thing I see is Karen CHASING THE DOG ACROSS THE ENTIRE PROPERTY. It.was.hilarious!

Wow that is hilarious 😂! Same thing with me except it was my tiny cat chasing my German shepherd:lau

Question about my polish in a mixed flock: is there a true chance she won’t be bullied or is it a must that she be separated ? If so, should I get her some polish friends?
I ordered 2 polish with the others that came from Meyer a few weeks ago, the other polish died the day after they arrived. This one survived (3 near death experiences). But now, she’s alone and sometimes pecked at. We are using Peck-No-More to keep the others from hurting her. So far it’s working. We reapply every few days and they will be reminded to stop pecking her. No feathers are missing, so we’ve so far let her stay with the flock. But as her feathers come in as she gets older, I’m worried about her, especially once they are moved outside and can’t be monitored.

Any ideas and encouragement would be appreciated. Honest feedback too. I’m already plotting a separate coop area and finding her some polish friends but wanted some feed back of more experienced polish keepers. Thank you!

I have only one polish in a very mixed flock of 13 chickens and have had absolutely no issues with pecking. I have both bantams and standards in my flock. They are kept in a large deep litter run (filled with straw, leaves, wood chips, etc.) with lots of things for entertainment, that way they have better things to do than to pick on each other.
