I think chickens have some great personalities.
Describe the chickens that are special to you, or your whole flock!
What do you think makes them unique? Throw in a picture of them if you want to!

(Chuck) Norris was the first chick named out of all of the 4. She is the Barred Rock.
She has the softest feathers, she is the smallest, and she has the prettiest feathers, but she really dislikes being picked up or handled without her sisters. Norris flaps her little wings and takes suicide jumps out of my hand in hopes of making it back to the brooder, which is something I will have to break her out of soon! She is perfectly fine when handled with the others.

Sweet Pea is the smaller of the two RIRs. She has a very sweet and active disposition. She loves to stand on my hand and peck at my hairs/moles/fingernails/veins. She likes to randomly jump, and she usually lands on the bigger RIR. She is very observant, and I always catch her watching me with interest.

Butter Cup/Scotch is a Buff Orpington, and the sweetest, cuddliest and calmest of the bunch. She doesn't mind being handled, and I think she even enjoys it. Butter falls alseep right away in my lap or hand. I know parents should not have favs, but she is unique to me.

Kindle/Raspberry (not decided on name yet!) is the other RIR and largest f the bunch, and is quite boisterous and loud. She likes to screech at night when I leave the room! She is very vocal. I have a hunch she might be a he, but I really hope that is not the case.
She doesn't mind being handled, and she will tell you if she doesn't want to be! She might be the future leader of the flock, being that she is quite pushy/bossy. She can be very sweet.

I will try and get individual shots of them soon!

Felicity - (White Silkie) I call her Felix for short. She has a crossbeak and people always ask me "What do you see in her?" because to me she is so ugly she is cute. She follows me everywhere and loves to be picked up. Doesn't even realize she is different and tries to peck everything she sees even though she can't pick anything up. Loves baths.

Edward - (Silver Sebright) I should of named him curious George he pecks anything shinny or 'different'. Beware of wearing fingernail polish around this one. I hardly have any shots of him where he isn't trying to peck my camera. He is also crossbeaked but it doesn't stop him.

Alice - (White Silkie) She loves to peck everything not out of curiosity really she just loves trying to show you SHE is boss. She is broody at the momment, I put new eggs under her the other ones didn't hatch. At a young age she got picked up by a hawk and I managed to get her back w/o a scratch now she has this fright of anything that flies including when the other chickens fly. She is Felix's buddy and loves taking baths.

Buzz - (Golden Sebright) The head honcho of all my birds he breaks up any scuffles among my birds. Loves to attack feet (he knows better not to get mine now) He loves attacking my mom who hates him. Once I heard my mom scream and I ran outside and she was running from him throwing a bread loaf at him. He is terrified of unbrellas.

Rosalie - (Red Silkie) Rosie for short. She is the loner of my chickens and loves going off on her own she's gona get eaten one of these days. Hates being picked up but loves being petted (maybe she is scared of hights or something?) She is very noisy sometimes and loves chatting to herself hates being in the coop and loves being outside especially in the rain.

Mojojojo - (ModernGameBantam) Mojo for short. Longest legs on a bantam I have ever seen! Loves being petted acts more like a crowing hen than a rooster. He is BFF with Buzz and is always near him, they get along like brothers (who says roosters can't get along?) Loves to sit on my shoulder.

Gurdy - (Red Silkie) Her beak is a bit off her top is longer and kinda curls to the side at the end but she eats fine. She doesn't care to be picked up but likes to be petted. Likes being out in the yard and in the rain.

Ralfie - (EE) He is the clumsiet chicken ever, he trips over his own feet and falls on my poor bantams and he is WAY to big for my bantam hens Poor things. He is sorta ALOT of colors, I call him calico.

Bonnie - (Polish) LOUD! Loves to make noise. Easy to sneak up on because of her top hat and easy to scare. Likes to be petted and will fall asleep in your lap. Lays quite abit of smallish eggs, that she enjoys eating.
somad.gif
Loves to be outside and is one of Buzz's favorite hens she beats up the roosters too she is a TOP hen.

Ruddie - (EE) Ralfie's "brother" is what he seems to be. He has never crowed and likes to mount the other roosters. Hates being handled in anyway and likes to start fights.
rant.gif
Scared of Buzz though who is way WAY smaller than him.

Riley - (Red Silkie) Hates being handled she is the 'popular' hen and all the roosters seem to give her too much attention, she is starting to go bald on her head. Loves to make noise and be annoying. Hates the coop.

Jasper - (White Silkie) Is okay with being picked up but doesn't care for it too much. Likes to be petted. Very mellow, and gallops when he runs (pretty funny to watch). He has seizurs sometimes which scares me.

Sydney - (I don't know what she is?) The top TOP hen she puts all the roosters in their place and is Buzz's favorite girl. She lays plenty of smallish eggs and Bonnie is like her sister their always near each other because I got them together. She eats her eggs too and she hates being in the coop.

Emmett - (Red Silkie) I think he has problems, he attacks me and never learns his lesson just does it again. I would rather get rid of him he is mean to the hens so Mojo has to put him in his place.

Jill - (Golden Sebright) Very loveable. Lap chicken and very hyper too. Loves running, darting, flying. Likes ridding around on my shoulders. Her BFF's are Isabella and Esme.

Caralisle - (Golden Sebright) Loveable towards his hens. His favorite hen is prob Isabella. Doesn't mind being petted. Puts on a show (he thinks he is boss)

Esme - (Golden Sebright) Just like Jill they are like twins. She is hyper and likes sitting on my shoulders and lap. Loves to peck everything and eat hair.

Isabella - (Silver Sebright) The hen I always let people new to chickens hold. She is so calm and she loves being petted and held. She doesn't get along with my ducks though.

Mac (Black Australorp) Is funny. she loves to be petted and held eats out of my hand. and won't put up with anyone who tries to mess with her. She hates to be in the coop and dances all day at the door until we let her out. we had to get rid of our first rooster (mac's best friend) and we have had other roosters. She will not breed with any one of them. she only did with the first one

Molty(EE & ?) She is a huge bird!! She is the Grumpy of the group. She doesn't like being held, doesn't like eating out of my hand. Hates being petted. She will have a fit if you go in the coop while she's laying an egg.

Thing (EE) She is the smallest hen I have ever seen. But she is chipper, she doesn't take anything from anyone. She always starts things. But she is also the biggest baby. If someone is in the spot she wants or eats something before her she cries for about 5 minutes.

Chipmunk (Ameracauna) She is by far my favorite. Every morning when she comes out of the coop she sets down and lets me pick her up. She would let me hold her all day if I wanted too. When she was a chick in the house she used to ride on my shoulder all the time. She eats out of hand and will talk to me when I talk to her.

Chickens are so cool!

Sweet Pea (Red Star)- She is the nicest of the 4 chicks I have. She sits calmly in your hand and doesn't mind being picked up.
24946_dsc05468.jpg

Honey (Buff Orpington)- She is pretty friendly, and calm (once you get her to be), but she doesn't like to be picked up. she enjoys being held and petted, but she runs away when I try to pick her up.
P.S. She is obsessed with jumping on people's shoulders! She even falls asleep on them!
24946_dsc05286.jpg

Pansy (Golden-Laced Wyandotte)- She's the least freindly of them all, but she is still very friendly for a chicken. She's okay with being picked up, she likes being held, but she flaps her wing when you first get her in your hands, then stops when she calms down ,and sometimes even falls asleep.
24946_dsc05348.jpg

Speckles (Speckled Sussex)- She (were hoping she's a she, but she might turn out to be a he
fl.gif
) is very friendly, and falls asleep in your lap the most often out of them all. She (
fl.gif
) is a sweetie pie, and we would be sad if she was a rooster, because we would have to get rid of her.

I'll try not to describe EVERY chicken, cause this would turn out to be a REALLY long post if I did, so I'll just describe some of the ones that have really wormed their way into my heart.

Sir Wyandotte: He's my SLW roo and he is such a sweetheart. The moment I say "My baby" in a really mushy way he sits completely down, whether he is still on the ground, or on my lap. He knows he's my baby and that it means he's going to get lots of petting and affection. He loves that.

Abner: Bantam Splash Cochin roo. He is very mellow and quiet. He doesn't mess with any of the other birds too much. He is content to get picked up and petted.

Buddy: Bantam Barred Cochin roo. He is, at this time, the flock leader. Everyone gets out of his way. He has this special cooing sound he makes when his human family comes into the coop. He likes being held and petted, but he's rather be down on the ground proving his manliness.

Pip: Golden Sebright roo. He has to be my absolute favorite, though I try hard not to have favorites. But Pip is so sweet and friendly. He doesn't like to be picked up, but once I have him in my arms, he nestles down and goes to sleep. He loves to be snuggled. He is the first, and so far only one of, my roos to crow, though his little crow is rather pathetic. I love this little boy!

Heidi: White Silkie. I suspect now that Heidi is a roo, not a hen, and while he/she doesn't like to be picked up, he/she is content to tolerate a moment or two of petting once he/she is picked up. Heidi is quiet and quite funny to watch. He/she likes to sunbathe, but can never seem to lay correctly without falling completely over onto his/her back. I get a kick out of this bird.

Peanut: Bantam Splash Cochin pullet. She is the tiniest of the Cochins I have out in the coop, and she is very quiet, but she likes to fly up onto my lap and get petted and take naps as she sits on me. I talk to her a lot and I swear she is listening!

Pepsi: Not sure if Pepsi is an OEGB or a Sebright cross, cause he is the same color as Pip, but has a straight comb. Pepsi is a sweet bird too but is quieter than Pip. His best buddy is Millie, my Mille Fleur pullet.

Omelet: Amber Sexlink pullet. Omelet is really something else. She is cocky, pushy, obnoxious, and yet also very needy and demanding of attention. She will fly up onto my lap and demand to have her neck rubbed. If another bird flies up onto me while she is in my arms, she gets mad because she wants my undivided attention. She is equally as demanding of attention from my 9 year old daughter. If Mimi (my daughter) comes into the coop Omelet will fly up onto her and demand her neck rubs from her too, even if she just got a good long one from me. She pushes around a lot of the other birds, but she isn't really at the top just yet. She and my other two Sexlinks, Poachy (a roo) and Amber (pullet) are inseperable.

Poachy: Amber Sexlink roo. He is quiet and easy going. He doesn't really demand too much attention and isn't mean. His coloring says that he is a roo, and it looks like he has saddle feathers, but his personality is more hen like in nature. He is calm and so pretty. He's a creamy white with some honey colored feathers around his neck and upper back. He and Omelet are always with Amber, but I don't like Amber. She is mean and pecks and bites TRYING to break the skin. She is just not a nice bird. I don't have the heart to send her to freezer camp so I'm just going to sell her. She will eventually lay eggs and maybe someone will just want her for that and they will tolerate her biting, or have a more effective way of getting it under control.

Petunia: Bantam Barred Cochin pullet. Petunia is such a calm and nice bird. She tolerated being picked up and snuggled, and is content to sit with me, or my daughters, for long periods of time. She seems to listen when she is spoken too and she keeps most of the other hens in line.

Goldie: a GLW that was suppose to be standard sized, but seems to be stunted in growth. She isn't as small as a Bantam, but she isn't anywhere near the size of my SLW's who are actually a week younger than she is. She has vision problems and was pecked and plucked til there were no feathers at all on her back, and she had no tail either when I got her about two weeks ago. Now she is almost completely re-feathered and is thriving. She follows the other birds to the water and food and is very docile in nature. She isn't aggressive at all, whereas my SLW's can be from time to time. She tolerates being petted and likes to roost on my knee as I sit in the coop.

I think that's most everyone. I have lots more birds, and new babies too, but I have to get to know the personalities of each birds a little better before I can talk about them. I do also have two Mallard ducks that are feisty and every time I talk to them the smaller one, Marion, likes to open her beak and stick her tongue out at me. Jesse, the other Mallard, just sits there and listens to me. I love all my birds though. They are all sweet and loveable in their own ways.

I have an EE I call Wiskers because she has muffs, I now call her Wiskers the worlds smartest chicken. If theres a way to get out she will find it. She actually bobs and weaves around me.

One of my RIR, Hazel is a bit of a dim bulb. She will be scratching and pecking away oblivious to all around her till she looks up and realizes everyone else moved on.

An EE named Elizabeth because it looks like she has a Elizabethan collar around her neck. She is bossy. Moves others out of her way with a bump of the rump or she just pecks the babies.

Dot BR- sweetest and my favorite, smartest of the girls
Dash Br- (Dot's hatch mate) Total but head! most stand offish and first to peck. luv her anyway though
Flopsy BO- sweet girl not the brightest
Mopsy- First to try to get out the run door when u r coming in. sweet girl
Gonzo and Hairy- my silkies they are both oblivious.

015.jpg

Mopsy is the BO, I'm not sure which is Dot and which is Dash I have to see their faces.

013.jpg

Flopsy so named because of her floppy comb.

First off is Dory: WCB polish hen. She is named after Dory the fish in "Finding Nemo". Dory has one of the shortest attention spans known to man
tongue2.gif
But she is still a nice girl. She will run over to me and sit to be petted, and she has now started to fly up onto me!

Sammy - Salmon Fav.: Hen. She is the oddest bird for sure! She will be doing something, and then seemingly forget what she was doing, and just stop and stand there with a question mark above her head. Then all of a sudden the light bulb goes on, and she'll take off to a different spot in the yard! Sometimes she's just kind of "slow" and you have to wonder about her. When we first got her, she was also gender confused... She would try to crow (hence the name Sammy - it could go either way!), but it never really sounded like an actual crow

27475_img_1975.jpg

Whitey - White leghorn cockerel: He's a funny boy. I'll sit in the shed with the babies, and he'll jump up on the ledge of the tub the chicks are in, and start to stare at me like "why are you looking at us all the time?" "What's so interesting... I really don't get it!". He'll also sit on my shoulder
big_smile.png

27475_img_2261.jpg

Maybel - EE pullet: She is the friendliest of the EE's that I have. I can pick her up and she will sit on my lap... Named after the makeup brand due to her having "eyeliner"

I love all of the pictures and personalities! All are very unique.
Keep them coming!
I am still trying to get a good picture of Butterscotch, she is so darn camera shy!

I just have so many cool chickens right now (over 50) but I do have my favorites out of the bunch due to their very unique personalities. Of course, my favorite of all my chickens has to be Mr. Jingles. He has to be the coolest of all silkies! He is so madly in love with his gal, Miss Muffin and always stands between her and whoever might be in his coop or run. My husband gets a daily flogging when he goes to open the coop every morning. DH just laughs, but is always prepared to run if need be.

Below is Grissom and he's a royal pain in the rump! He still lives in the house in a brooder or at least that's where he's supposed to be! He's a Polish escape artist and can be found most anywhere... including in the other brooder with my silkies babies, sitting on the back of DH's chair or even on top the piano. He likes to brag when he gets out of his brooder and loudly chirps to let us all know.

26140_sara-grissom.jpg

I don't have a recent photo of Coco, my only Mille Fleur d'Uccle, so have posted a "baby" photo, but he's my family's favorite and now lives outside in a coop with my Cochins. Coco loves to play ball and I have several videos of him chasing balls across my living room floor. I really think he might be part dog. Regardless, he's a real character and runs to meet me each morning when I go out to feed. He's a real sweetie.

26140_coco2wk.jpg

And last but not least is Big Red who is only 12 weeks old but already runs the coop he shares with my 12 BO. He's my mystery bird... no one seems to know exactly what he is, but I bought him as a day old chick... supposedly a BO (not!). He is the head dog and all the other cockerels know it. He's going to take real good care of his ladies. He doesn't like to be picked up, but will let me pet him and always meets me at the gate to see what kind of goodies I brought.

26140_bigred-12wk.jpg

I could go on and on... but will stop there. All my chickens are special in one way or another, each having their own unique personalities and I love spending time with them every day.
