The Pita Pinta Asturiana

Pics
Very cute!  I just got back from spending 6 days in AZ visiting my parents.  I knew that I would miss my family but I was surprised at how much I missed my chickens.  Monet held down the fort for me.  She did all my outdoor chicken chores, took care of the 1-2 week old Pita Pinta chicks, and kept an eye on the 2 incubators that I have running.  She was very happy when I got home late last night!

What a great help to be able to slip away with all that going on. I knew she was a "keeper " when we met priceless:)))

Thanks, Kandi! After giving me a big hug and saying, "I'm so glad you are home, Mommy!!!", her only two comments were, "Yeah! I don't have to set my alarm for 7 in the morning!" and "At least none of the chickens died. At least none that I know of!"

She had a lot of responsibility while I was gone and I'm happy that both she & the chickens survived!

I have Pita Pinta chicks hatching today! 1 is out already and several more have pipped. They are hatching in the bottom tray of my cabinet hatcher. I'm not even sure how many eggs are in there because Monet set them to hatch for me while I was gone! What a fun thing to come home to!

A mama bear and a paintball gun and an all night standoff with repeat sneak attacks = faverolle, pp, olandsk dwarf and a few layers eaten

but since we have started taking food out in the morning and storing in the rest in the garage AND shooting four different bears ( we know it was four because of the pink and yellow paint in their butts) we have been nice and quiet

sorry for you. around here I wouldn't be using a paintball gun.

5 pitas hatched out of six eggs (others are TJ eggs) 5 going to lock down today and a few more in one week.
Whoo hoo!!! Congrats! I love Pita Pinta chicks. I have 21 chicks that are 2 1/2-3 weeks old (2 different hatches). They are the friendliest chicks. I was in AZ for almost a week and thought that they would have forgotten me by the time I came back. Before I left, all I had to do was say bawk, bawk, bawk and they would all come running to me. We put them in the outside brooder last night with a large Premier 1 heating plate. Today, I opened one of the doors (the pen is 4 1/2 ft off the ground), called for them, and they all came charging out from underneath the plate. I took some pics that I will post once I download them to my computer. These chicks make me smile!
