The Pita Pinta Asturiana

Pics
Boys and Girls spent their first night outside in my new outside brooder cages. Dark was a new experience for them.

I separated the boys and girls and am probably going to start feeding them differently.

Boys will probably get broiler feed starting next week I'm hoping that the culls will end up with a bit more table weight on them when that time comes. Any thoughts?

I started my birds on Purina Medicated Starter and will feed them that for the first 8 weeks.

My plan is switching to King Freedom Starter for the Girls and King Broiler Feed for the boys.

I feed them a wet feed 2-3 times a day now but will cut back to 2 times a day now that they are separated. Going to add ACV, Sea Kelp and DE to the mix. (Been adding some chick grit on top for the past few days in prep for giving them greens and meal worms)

I plan on sectioning off a part of the yard for them to spend some time in the dirt.

I'm hoping to get the permanent pen set up by mid May.

It all sounds good, but Do not feed the chicks DE--It has enough calcium in it to blow out their kidneys.

I set some Pita Pinta eggs in the Brinsea for you. I have 4 OE eggs in their too. The Arkansas Blues are not laying right now so I will need to work with them soon.

Thanks for that I wont add it. I havent started doing that yet for them anyway. I only put about a 1/2 tsp in the big girls mash for about 4 cups of dry feed.

DE is great for the girls laying eggs and is a trick to get soft egg shells hardened up.

I also have 6 Pita Pinta eggs in the hatcher--day 21 is Thursday.

Cool I really need the Pitas to help with the inbreeding on these birds. I'm starting to keep growth records on my chicks now.

Odile sunbathes while eating some daisies.

I enjoy seeing the pics of your girls! I need to do a better job of photographing mine. I have a group of chicks that are around 10 weeks old and they are hysterical! Most of them are cockerels and are slated for freezer camp. I will need to move them to the farm in the next week or so. 1 of them boys has discovered his voice. It is just a scratchy little crow right now but he is practicing. I'm sure that some of the other ones will start imitating him soon!

Both the King Freedom starter crumbles and the layer pellets have DE in them. It is the 7th ingredient listed in the starter. I use DE in the coops but don't add it to the feed since it is already in it.

I'm afraid the CLB boys will do the same they were noisy last year. They still have a few weeks I think. I think they were 12 at least when they found the voice last year.

This is the youngest Pita Pinta cockerel that I have had crow. It must be all the male company in that pen! Either that or he has been eyeing the big girls on the other side of the fence. We took 2 older cockerels to the farm this week. They were not crowing but as soon as they were gone, this little guy started.
