Here is Trinket with her Pita PInta babies. She has 6 but 1 went under her by the time I got back with my camera. She is 1 happy mama and so easy to deal with. I love this bird!

The tornado watch has been lifted, thank Goodness. I was so afraid of losing power during the storms. We have a generator that kicks in if power goes off, but don't know which power outlets it will control. I was worried about the incubator going out!

She is a trailer mix from the farm. I'm pretty sure she has Cream Legbar and Ameraucana somewhere in the mix. She lays a beautiful green egg. She is my best broody hen.

Yes it is sad to lose them. It was a very good hatch though. Only one out of the 7 that developed did not make it and it actually did hatch.

Happy to hear you have 6 out of 7, but sad that they all didn't make it. Good Luck with the babes!

My brooders are running over with Pita Pinta chicks! I have also been giving eggs to my broodies this year. I have a trio of chicks that are around 10 weeks old that one of my broody mamas hatched for me. They aren't the friendliest chicks at this point but are smart and good foragers even at this young age. Aren't they cute? Also, does anyone in N CA want chicks, juveniles, or culls from my breeding program?

What reason are you culling these 3 is it just friendliness?

I have 5 that are about 2 weeks behind them and 2 that are just over 2 weeks old.

Ive been tracking the growth rates on the little ones since after their first week and the older ones for about 3 weeks.

It is astounding how fast chicks grow. Some more than doubling their weight in a week.

The older ones have tapered off now to about 15% or so gain in a week, but the largest boy is nearly is approaching 2 lbs. while the lightest female is just barely over the 1 lb mark

I wonder if anyone has growth stats on their birds. (I know Debi would probably be weighing birds all day long if she tried)

The boys seem the most hungry since I separated the boys from the girls.

Ill need to develop a better system of identification next year when I hatch out more of my own.

I think im going to need a bigger scale soon too.
