The Pita Pinta Asturiana

Happy Thanks Giving!

She looks so miserable...

I know, she looks shocking. But she seems OK, all things considered. She just gets cold in the late afternoon when the sun starts to go down. My friends all want to knit sweaters for her. Odette is not molting (yet?) but is getting extremely fat and glossy eating that Feather Fixer feed. :)

The 2 boys I brought back from Neals (1 Pita and 1 CLB) are adjusting back to the back yard. The girls have been paying them attention through the cage today, The make shift door to their cage came open today and they got out and there were no squabbles at all they even put themselves to bed tonight with the ladies. No squabbles with each other nothing. Quite happy with them and both are still quite friendly to humans too.

Here is Odile on the other side of her molt. She looks so much whiter than Odette now!

What pretty girls! My birds grow in more white after they molt, too. I'm wondering if some of the pics we see of whiter flocks have been through a molt or two or three!

Thank you! I love Odile's new white tail; it really looks like a ballet tutu. Odette has decided that she likes to sit on the toes of my boots for her nap; they are so sweet.

They look so good after the molt!

Is she laying eggs?

Not yet. Odette kept laying until about a week ago and stopped, and I am figuring they are now both on hiatus until after the solstice. Last year Odette laid her first egg the day after Christmas, so she might start up again soon.... I'm glad Odile got through the molt. I don't think she is completely feathered yet, but she looks much better and seems to be back to her usual self.

Hours of daylight start going up after today so it should not be too much longer for eggs.

They are sensitive to the light change so it does not take much more light to get them going.

Yes, I think it should be soon. Odette was practice nesting today.
