The Pita Pinta Asturiana

Pics
Thanks! They alternate days (with my Marans) out in the horse pasture. Don Juan II is such a great rooster! I love his body type. Now I'm hoping for some upcoming cockerels with a straighter tail. He holds his a bit sideways, and when he molted it got squirrely! The girls are pretty nice. Chicks hatching next Wednesday... I've got three broody Marans, so they may go to them to raise.
He has a wonderful comb!

I would not worry too much about the tail.

Beautiful pics!

4 and a half weeks and getting dirt time today. 3 Pitas and a Delaware. 1 boy pita for sure the others may still turn out boy but I think one girl at least. The pitas are now out pacing the delaware.

Has the hatch happened??? Please let us know how it turned out! I hatched a bunch of Langshan this week and 1 Pita Pinta. The boys who help me collect the eggs at the farm are just not getting it right! LOL!

Nice looking chicks! Is the Delaware a girl?

I've never had a Delaware. Are they a slower to mature breed than the Pita Pinta?
They are not supposed to be but the fast maturing genes are kind of a lottery. Pitas are very quick to mature Dels maybe a month later especially the recreated Kathy line (could just be the genetics from the pairs Neal has too) I remember this last year too but didnt keep track as well. Im weighing every week. Dels are not as slow as say Jersey Giants.

Well, I blew it. Put the 2/3 of the way eggs from the incubator under three broodies last Thursday. Found lots of cold eggs when I got back from San Diego Monday. GGRRRR

Of the 11 PP eggs I originally set, 3 were infertile/non-starters, 1 quit maybe half way, and the other seven should have been fine. Here is what I got (yesterday) from the failed broody situation, after I took eggs away and put them back in the incubator just to see:

I got: 1 PP, 1 CCL, 1 OE, 1 Blue Marans, 2 Splash Marans, 1 Spitzhauben. The one hen I trust with the chicks has a very multi-cultural family! Back to the drawing board...
