The Pita Pinta Asturiana

Hi PetRock, I am in Spain, but not Asturias, which is the Atlantic coast in the north, I live near the Mediterranean on the Costa Blanca, Alicante region of Communidad Valencia, in the South. I have just extended my small flock with 3 Pita Pintas pullets, who are around 3 months or younger. (I think the breeder got his hatching dates mixed up as they are much smaller and look younger than photos of 3 month olds) I am on a steep learning curve and am researching as much as I can about these beautiful birds, reading up on Spanish as well as English articles. I'm really pleased I've found this thread. And if I find anything about Pitas here in Spain I'll let you guys know...

Im really glad to hear from you here. I am near PetRock and also have a flock of them. I was able to breed out 10 new girls this year (and a bunch of boys) We would really love to import some new fertile eggs in the next few years. The breed is so good we love them. Please feel free to contact any of us we really love this breed

Importing more eggs would be fantastic!

Thank you for making me feel so welcome here. Hhhmmmm.... am not sure how feasible it would be to ship fertile eggs from EU to USA. Maybe I could just book a holiday to the States and bring them in my suitcase! I've never been to America...

The only issue is getting them through customs. I will be looking into it over the next year. I'm looking for a property to start a preservation farm on to raise several rare heritage breeds.

Let me know what you find out. I am wanting to bring eggs from the U.S. to the E.U. but not sure how to go about it.

The general process is to get a permit here and have a vet examine the flock. The eggs can them be shipped here legally or brought over. Spain is an import friendly country so it is not too hard to get eggs over here. Most Asian countries are not import friendly--flocks have a lot of disease--so it is impossible.

Going from here to the EU may not be the same though

Ron, Your chicks are beautiful. You taught me about Sourdough and now you are
so knowledgeable on the new breed Pita. Such FUN. I am following this thread. The
Breed seems a FINE one. Wished I lived in California. Regards, Aria
