My very first hatch of Pita Pinta resulted in 2 covered and 7 pullets. One of the covered had a lot of brass colored leakage in his hackle feathers. I culled him and my flock is all decended from the 1 cockerel and 7 pullets. I've tried to cull any boys that end up with that color in their feathers. Some of mine still have it after they have been out in the sun for months. We are dealing with such a small gene pool that we can only do the best we can do.

Back on to see what people are saying about hatching rates. Set 18 eggs and only 4 are developing, with 2 more as quitters by day 12. Boys are shooting blanks most of the time, it seems... Such a bummer.

I am sorry to hear that!

Rooster booster, gamebird feed, calf manna and free choice calcium.

Parasite check

If they are not breeding(sometimes they only breed a couple hens), then removing the boys to a separate pen and then moving them in with the girls a couple hours a day sometimes helps. They should be able to see each other during separation

I hope they start having fertile eggs soon!

Thanks. Only one hatched. Same issue as last time--it pips then doesn't get any further than making a dime-sized hole in 24 hours. Starts to shrink wrap. We helped it. Not trying this any more, sadly. Our Don Juan is 3 years old now, and my Marans have super thick shells, but hatch so much more easily. Oh, well. The PP are such good layers we wanted to continue with them, but I see the writing on the wall.
