The Plymouth Rock Breeders thread

Here are a few pictures of my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks that I have sent Rip in hopes that he can give me a little information on the feather quality of them. Sending a few feathers through the mail would most likely be better and him seeing the birds in person will be best but until then I will be happy with whatever information he can send me. :)

To all of you out there....breeding season brings about many challenges, one of which is how to hatch from multiple breeding pens all at once. The large cabinet incubators are great, but incubating and hatching in them can make a mess....so, a hatcher you can use to hatch multiple pens in is a huge plus. Here is one I just finished, at a total cost of around $75. Temps are holding rock steady at 99.2F and there are 4 shelves I can hatch on, all at the same time. I need to add a few vent holes, tidy up my wires and verify I can get humidity up with a wicking pad (that's an easy one)

Wine cooler (brand new, just not working) - $20 on craigslist
Thermostat/heater/fan combo - $50
Extra cpu fan - had an extra in a drawer
Ceramic Light socket - $2
15W Light bulb - $2

If I can assist any of you with something like this just let me know

tigercreek, Have you seen these "All-in-One" kits?
No Fred, I haven't seen that. I like the proportional controller!! I can do the fan and heater, just wanting a nice controller. Now I just need to figure out how to order one that is sized to carry enough current for my Leahy cabinet. I am still using the dual wafer switches, and a lot of fan....

Hi Scott, I've been looking at this controller

It is at this link:

My hovabator has pretty much died. I cannot, for the life of me, keep it at 99. I'm thinking I'm going to do something along the lines of your wine cooler but I cannot do it now and we're right in the middle of starting up the hatching season. I'm thinking about perhaps adding some kind of light into my hovabator to raise it just a few degrees. Is this something you could advise me on? I'd like help with making an incubator probably some time during summer but for now, would a nightlight or two in the hovabator warm it up say 2 or 3 degrees? The fan works, it just sits between 96-97 degrees.
