Here are some new photos I took this morning of my Stukel male that I used over my Good Shepard hens. Feel free to comment on what you like and don't like about him. It was pretty hot out there, I will need to watch and see if his wing set is always that low. I know it should be higher. He has some nice wide tail feathers, and none of those irritating long, thin, dangling feathers.

There lots to like. His tail angle is better than many. His color and barring is plenty good, but you'd not expect less from a Stukel male. His bottom line is a V. That is something you hope the GSBR females can improve upon in this mating equation. His comb has a lot going on for points, but that's such a minor thing. If I remember correctly, this is a young bird, correct?

** sorrythis didn't go where it was suppose too*** In reference to if my eggs were bought, etc..

I bought the eggs and didn't know there was blue barred with black barred in the pen. Still would have bought the eggs, but not sure if the blue will stay. These are my first barreds in 4 years. My first were production birds. Still liked having them around but after I seen some Duckworth birds... the production birds had to go. Just happened to see Terry Disney (theloftathollylane) had barreds and the fever hit me again. So, we'll see who stays and who goes.

Yes, he is a young bird, I don't actually know when he was hatched.

Desertmarcy, the females, most of them, from the GSBR line should provide a fuller, rounder underline for this male in the match. This is what breeding is, in my mind. Matching up faults to strengths in a meaningful, purposeful way. Compensatory breeding. He's going to bring many virtues to the GSBR females. I so look forward to seeing the juvenile offspring of this matchup. I'd love to see some females you're considered for him. That's the stuff that gets me excited.

Since one of your most sober concerns was fertility and vigor, I agree with Scott. This has got to be an improvement.

I also like that he appears up on his legs. Too many Barred Rock females and Rock females in general are scrapin' the ground and we've got to address that.

I think Fred commented on most of the same things I see. Other than the comb and wing carriage, the only thing I see that I feel needs improving is that I'd like to see his tail "fuller"

I bet he significantly improves your fertility and hatchability
I know this is not a statistically big enough sample, but my last hatch 5 out of 5 fertile eggs with my Duckworth cross hatched, 8 out of 8 fertile eggs from this male hatched. No help from me, in fact I totally ignored the hatcher until a day past due. That, my friends, is burn out

Sure am glad there is only one more hatch to go.

I also wanted to get the "white" whiter. I agree with you on the legs. I like to see long legs, tall bird. I see the same thing in some bloodlines of Marans. They look too short and squat.

He looks pretty good Marcia...that is about as good of a tail as you are going to see on a Barred. What does the Duckworth male look like?

Here is my Duckworth male. This photo was taken 3 months ago, and now his tail looks awful, I don't know what happened.
