OOPS...hit the enter button (-;

at 9 months:

At around a year..."hens" now (-;

I just LOVE everything about them...sure, they could have a stiffer 'tent'..but I am hard pressed to 'fault' them...of course I am sure an APA judge could perhaps.

I really appreciate Jeremy Woeppel (Jwhip) sharing these birds...they are 'his' strain at this point IMHO...

Now, I gotta think about how to go about getting these hens bred

Cindy, that family resemblance is unmistakeable. Yup, yup.

The pullets do "show" early. Little doubt in my mind. It's the cockerels that'll fool ya. Calmest, most workman like birds around. We got to get you to do a "show" of those blonde girls you've got. Blonde's have more fun, don't they?

Sadly my girls are in poor condition right now. The boys are mating them quite a bit, so they have some rooster damage..

Here is one of the younger girls. She is not as nice in the barring as the older girls (who were laying when I just went out to take pictures).

Here they all are though at the beginning of the summer before molting has kicked in and roosters have had their way with them.
Nice bunch ya got there!!

Most of these Rocks need tail work, especially the males. We're gonna select hard for that in fall. We finally have enough to actually be very choosey. You gotta actually get a bunch, then you get pick through. Last year was make a bunch, now this year, it'll be pick the best.

Do you need a male? Seriously? We're swamped with them. LOL

This is a pretty bird. I'm not a judge, nor do I play one on TV. I'm just a farmer. This bird has many great features. She's handsome and proud. Her front isn't as deep as it needs to be. It has a bit of a "drop off". This puts a notch in the underline. Common enough among Rocks, and her's is barely noticeable, really, but watch for this fault in your breeders. Her wing is nice. But her bigger issue is her back. She's got that puff up in front of her tail which give the bird a ridgeback look. We had 3 or 4 pullets with this look and we refused to put them in the breeder pen. Less is sometimes more. We got 7 females from Kathy, but only two were bred. That's just what we did. Everyone has to go about dealing with the old "mattress pad" in their own way. LOL

No cushion or "mattress" on the back of this girl, Justine. Nice back, just by way of contrast.

I have always to remember that there is no perfect bird. When the back is great, the head is crow like. When the head is great the legs are too close together. Ha Ha. It's a life long pursuit. That's what makes it interesting and challenging for a life time, imho.

Thank you :)

I'm really liking their personality. The two males I have are amazing. They are so good with any new people, kids, etc.. They even whoop the two aggressive roosters when they come near us. The aggressive ones are going to be dinner shortly, but I am impressed with their personalities as well. No matter how pretty a rooster is, if it's aggressive - all bets are off.

I'm seriously wondering why my chicks have legs so pale and almost pink. With parents as I pictured above, they should not be this pale. The parents have bright yellow legs (not as bright as the buff pictured earlier, but bright!)

I sure hope it's a phase!

They are 5 weeks old. :) I won't upload the picture of my ugly duckling who is almost fully naked at 5 weeks. It's sad really LOL.

Nope. Changed my mind. I am not going to spare you.

It's important to know when you breed these heritage breeds, that some just feather out veeeeeerrrryyyyy sloooowwwllyyy.. Example a.

He looks like an Ostrich, so that shall be his name.
