Hoorah!!! The first F1 pullet laid a little egg today. 24.5 weeks old. Very pleased. I'll try to chart the laying start from all three of these pullets and I'll use an average start in my thinking.
Hey those look familiar! Yay!! This is wonderful news.

ps. I have photos to share but have not had a reliable computer for almost a week. It shuts itself down randomly and without warning so I'll be lucky to finish this post. lol

In deference to the older layers, she lays in another nest. But, what a joy today to find her second egg, right in the nest box where it should be. I believe she's go it.

All right, Cindy has been showing hers off, here are a couple shots of her siblings at my place
Two cockerels

And one of the pullets

I have the 2 cockerels and 4 pullets. I took these pics yesterday, then realized that I really needed to band them so I could tell them apart and make notes of them a little easier. So they all got numbers this morning; hope to get out and take some more pics this afternoon.

these all had dark yellow legs but they have faded (even more than I had realized); there is no grass around here, and my chick feed does not have a lot of corn in it

Those of you with Buff Rocks, are you pleased with the feathering? Do you have plans, perhaps, to tighten the feathering? If so, do you have a strategy?
I'm just a babe when it comes to these Rocks Fred! Just beginning to learn about them since I got these from Cindy. I have noticed that some of these have loose fluffy skirts, but they are also full of pin feathers, so wondering if the feathering will be a little tighter when they are done growing in the new ones; there are handfuls of feathers all over just from me catching them up to band them this morning.

Here are my two pair from Cindy. These shots were taken 3 weeks ago. I just never got around to posting them. I am just crazy busy right now, so many things to do, I hardly know where to start. Now through April is the only time of year it is cool enough for me to get stuff done outside and it was still 85 degrees here yesterday

Want it to cool down and stay that way for a while.
I finally freed up a pen and moved the cockerels out away from the hoard of Barred Rocks they were with. I expect they will grow a bit faster now that they aren't competing and being chased by those.

Did I kill this thread with those photos?
Oh no I saw them and oogled over them yesterday just didn't take tome to post. No I don't think thats the kind of bird that would kill any forum thread on well bred or good typey breeds of poultry.

Jeff

was just out looking at my XW White rock male boy oh boy he's got an awesome almost unreal looking tail going on now I guess it might be really normal for them after all the BRs I seen struggle so hard to get a nice one going on too LOL

I think he might just be a keeper too. My Columbains are finally gettin decent enough to start really judging somewhat. I tell you this is not for the impatient/antsy folk for sure.
