I built 2 of these to put birds in to dry after I bathed them. It is 8' long 37" wide. Each pen is 32". I used 5/4 x 6 x8 deck boards and ripped them 1 3/4" each. So I got 3 boards out of each deck board. I have a couple that have a wire bottom and are split in half. I'm going to make some 4 x 8 and split in half also to use as conditioning pens.
Wow.. this would be fantastic for the sale part of the show as well. Everyone can see in and get a good idea, without them being exposed to the ground.

Just curious how many of y'all actually show your birds.
I show. Haven't my Rocks yet, but will once they have all reached maturity next year.

I won Champion Heavy Goose and Reserve Champion Goose at our 2013 Canadian Nationals! First big win at a show that important :)

We've provided 4H kids and their parents a number of birds. Many have done very well with them and there's lots of ribbons and trophies and such. It is a rather enjoyable aspect of this. I know at least two or three other people are showing birds they got from us and that's just fine too.

Any reason you don't show Fred?

Time? Not your cup of tea? Fear of disease?

Scott this is my setup. I have four 15 gallon barrels. I drilled a hole in the bottom and put a valve stem through it. Connected 3/8 tubing and ran to drinking cups in each pen.
I have a couple of questions about your setup. Don't any of the rest of you, especially if you live in the south, have problems with termites if you make your pens or pen frames out of wood? Termites are terrible where I live. Anything wood gets eaten. And on the tubing going to your drinking cups, won't algae become a big problem with the clear tubing?

Termites won't eat treated wood. Put a little bleach in the water every once in awhile will keep the algae out.

I have not had termite problems. I would worry about the wood rotting before I worried about termites. I use oxine and that prevents algae. It is the same stuff some water municipalities use in drinking water. I don't use anything clear though.... that might be a problem.

That set up is similar to my breeding pens.

It's not unlike a weekend away for a major sporting event, a festival, music, arts/craft show, or an other activity like skiing, hunting, fishing, racing, golf, ad infinitum. Like any other interest or hobby, one must weigh the time, the funds and the rest. It is what it is.

Fear of disease isn't a factor.

Your points are very valid Fred :)

I usually use these shows as a place to sell my extras. We do two sales, June and September. I'm going anyway, so I show. Also gets our name out there. Word of mouth is big when you are just getting your foot in the door like our farm!

I don't like to travel any long distances with birds. They really stink up the SUV we have lol.
