Termites won't eat treated wood. Put a little bleach in the water every once in awhile will keep the algae out.
Oh, you are using treated wood. I couldn't tell from the photos. Some of it is better than others, I have found. I remember getting some "treated" wood from HD and it was basically just coated on the outside. A piece of it laying around in my yard was eaten by termites. TimberSIL is the best (wood infused with liquid glass). The termites won't touch it, and it is rot and fire resistant. However it is darn expensive and the closest dealer to me is CA.

I like your pens. I need to either build more for the males or cut back drastically

Housing chickens in the extreme climate and extreme sun of s. Arizona is a challenge.

I think you are trying to raise your birds organically.....you wouldn't want to use treated wood. I remember reading to sell organic eggs you couldn't use it treated wood.

Hi all,
5 month old Buff pullet...weighs 7.5 lbs. Solid as a Rock

Love her head. Color is pretty darn even. Tail is still coming in. She started squatting a few days ago and comb/wattles cherry red...about at POL. Not bad for standard bred at 20 weeks...would definitely dress out nicely as a roaster...hopefully she lays well...Dual purpose being the goal and she's easy on the eyes too

Yes, the danged cushion will be the nemesis...oh her tail set is good when she's on full alert but her topline should be more linear even at rest. can't tell from pic but she has good feather width on tail..just not enough finishing to tell for sure. She's headed to Tucson show this weekend. Mary Hysong will take her home from and likely single mate her late winter or early spring. She's got 2 males and is only about an hour from me.

Yeah she has a bit of size to her! That's fantastic at that young of an age. Love the color. Looks very even. And that head is impressive! Can't wait to hear how she does at the show.

Hi Cindy You have done a great Job on growing out your Very Nice Buff Plymouth Rocks as she is AWESOME! I have really enjoyed all the pictures you have posted on such very rare & beautiful variety of the Plymouth Rock breed. The cushion & loose feathering is a problem for me also and something that I will be working on in my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks.

Wow, she's a stunner! Looks like a ray of sunlight :) Must really brighten up your yard in this dull time of year!

Love those legs, and wings, chest, and head. Very pretty girl.

Wow!!! very nice

How important is double mating to breeding Barred Rocks? If you are not interested in top show quality birds is it necessary? How bad does the the barring get if you don't double mate? the BR could be an option for me at some point, but I need to keep things as simple as possible and avoid additional lines, if possible. Thanks!
