Blue Laced Red Wyandottes are not a recognized variety of Wyandottes by the APA nor the ABA which means they could not have won any thing at a show. The only thing they would be eligible for would be Best of Variety of a variety that does not exist by the APA and ABA standard. They can't even be considered for Best of Breed in the Wyandotte Breed.
You have me very confused at the moment...

Matt

I was thinking the same thing when I read that.

I haven't been following this thread much but I could use some advice

I have some BR's from Kathy and I do like them but lost my only rooster last fall. So I have five nice hens, who at this time aren't laying.

I was thinking of dumping them for SP's. Dick has some eggs for sale and I thought perhaps to move to them instead.

One thing I like about barred birds is they are not so easy to see when they free range. I suppose that's why the Partridge were developed too. Sometimes the only way I could find my rooster was look for his red comb. There he'd be laying in the Daylillies.

So what's the consensus? Should I switch to SP's?

Your looking for cockerel to contintue right? Find that male and keep going is my vote.

If you want to jump ship then I'd go Partridge from Dick and live bird.

It's that I know your birds have great potential and are pure. I'd hesitate to discard for lack of male...

If you decide to change variety, the Partrige is not widely shown nor is there a big genetic pool of it. I'd get live birds of Dick Hortsman and go with it.

Without knowing what a breeder's goal is, and yes, this is a breeders thread, it is pretty hard to advise anyone.

All I can say is that if it were me, at my age, starting over takes more time than I might have to give to a line of birds. Even getting a great box of chicks will mean at least a two or three year basic commitment. Finding an unemployed male would certainly be the path of least resistance at this point, since Rancher likes the females he has.

Fred I suspect you and I are about the same age since I am retired. I have no goals as far as show, something I believe has ruined many breeds, for the intended utility. However some breeds are not as common as they used to be. SPR's and PR's are two in NY that I know of. As far as serious keepers I think many who have them keep just a couple of hens.

When I first started with Delaware I could find no one in the state that had them. I drove 5 hrs to get 4 hens and a rooster to go with my 3 hatchery hens.

Should I switch to SP's?
Yes.
