The PO needs held responsible for damaging eggs.......very sad.

Unless I have lost my mind (and that sure is not a far fatched chance)

The PO is responsible for damage.. Its called insurance!

We all know that the PO is made up of a cross section of our
socitey which mean there will be those that just don't care
so go the extra steps to make it best it can be during shipping
Express and Insurance

It sure won't stop eggs not hatching
or chicks dieing, but at least you can have recourse on the money
spent.

Shipping eggs and live animals is a privelege that can be easily taken away. does everyone remember the mess over at ebay when the decided that eggs were live animals and had to be shipped overnight? Eggs are not live animals, but cells that have the potential to be live animals. The post office has to handle alot of boxes and they have to be careful of security threats, because face it, there are wierdos out there. I have never received a box of crushed eggs in the mail. So far this year I have shipped out 35 boxes of eggs, none have been broken. I am sure it will happen eventually but I cant complain. As far as the eggs being scrambled inside, that is something that is going to happen. especially if the boxes are turned so the eggs are upside down, which cant be controlled because the boxes are run through machines.

No, these aren't the BLRW...it is another box of eggs I had in the bator at the same time. Those (the BLRW) just had to come from Missouri (to Arkansas) and did rather well. Yeah, there is no insuring eggs...not to mentiomn, I am not worried about the money, I am woorried about the suffering of these babies. I would prefer them take the "privelege" of shipping animals and embryos than have them cause the damage they do. No one forces the to accept these shipments. Since they willingly agree to ship them they should accept responsibility for proper care of them. It is that simple. I like the foil idea and will request it if I buy eggs again.

Honestly, I must just have really good post offices around me because that has never happened to me (even before I worked for the p.o). I have had some eggs arrive broken (that's normal! Eggs aren't supposed to be shipped! hehe), but not b/c of anyone trying to break them or the boxes even looking bad.

As far as the two messed up chicks, I have gotten chicks like that hatch...but it was from someone local and it was too much cross breeding. Not saying that's what happened with yours AT ALL, but it could be so many things. I just don't see how the P.O could create a misformed chicken, though.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that, though and the losses. :-(

I insured mine (that were shiped to me)

Its not the item that is insured its the value of
that item..I figured the cost of shipping and the
value that I placed on the eggs.

If needed I will ship UPS\\FedEx\\DHL just to be
sure they get here next day. Yes I know that
you can't do live shipping.

something with human emotions and feelings
